West Nile Virus (WNv) is a mosquito-borne virus first identified in Uganda in 1927. Introduced to the U.S. in 1999, it has since become the most common mosquito-transmitted virus, with over 40,000 reported cases. WNv spreads primarily through mosquitoes that have fed on infected birds, with the main culprits being Culex species. While mosquito season may be slowing down in the US, awareness and prevention are still key to protecting ourselves and our communities.
