“Landscape architects are key to translating policy into action and realizing real biodiversity gains in landscapes, particularly in cities,” said ASLA President Kona Gray, FASLA, PLA. “We are uniquely positioned to lead multidisciplinary teams of ecologists, biologists, engineers, and other disciplines to protect, restore, and enhance ecosystems worldwide.” ASLA announced that Dr. Sohyun Park, ASLA, PhD, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, University of Connecticut, and MaFe Gonzalez, ASLA, Landscape Designer and Botanist, BASE Landscape Architecture, will represent ASLA at the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Cali, Colombia, October 21-November 1. ASLA and its 16,000 member landscape architects, designers, and educators support the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and its key goals and targets. Landscape architects are committed to achieving the 2030 goals and targets, including protecting and restoring at least 30 percent of terrestrial, coastal, and marine ecosystems by 2030 (30 x 30). During the COVID-19 pandemic, the San Elijo Hills HOA provided 4" tiles and paint to every member of the community, encouraging families to express their creativity and add a personal touch to each tile. These tiles were then glazed and fired, preserving the artwork. To showcase the community’s efforts, VDLA designed a series of curved seat walls at Questhaven Park, located in the heart of the neighborhood. These walls, adorned with a band of the community's tiles, face the park’s play areas, where all can enjoy them for years to come. #CommunityArt #LandscapeArchitecture #CreativeLandscapes

This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sam Pratt to the VDLA team as an intern. Throughout his time with us, Sam demonstrated an eagerness to learn and a passion for landscape architecture. Here are a few highlights: ?? Sam collaboratively worked alongside our team in Illustrator, contributing to a design that was ultimately selected to be used for street signage by the client’s City Council. ?? At VDLA, Sam expanded on his existing AutoCAD expertise, taking on the complex task of developing irrigation zone controller charts for a client’s housing development. ?? Sam also gained valuable insights into the practical aspects of landscape architecture, spending time on site to measure lots and digitize plans. He experienced the importance of meticulous documentation and communication with clients, agencies, and other stakeholders for each project. We are proud of Sam's contributions and growth during his internship and look forward to seeing where his journey in landscape architecture takes him next! ?? #InternshipExperience #LandscapeArchitecture #VDLA #NextGeneration
