I just wanted to share this notice with all of my LinkedIn contacts. I have truly loved my 43 year career in affordable housing and community development, especially my 11+ years with VCDC. Retirement will be a big transition for me, but I am happy to note that VCDC is very well positioned for a bright future after this upcoming leadership transition next spring.

As we look ahead to 2025, our organization is preparing for a significant transition. After a notable career dedicated to advancing affordable housing, our CEO, Robert Newman, has announced his retirement, set for April 2025. While we will deeply miss Bob's leadership and vision, this is also a time to celebrate his incredible legacy and begin the process of selecting a new leader to carry forward our mission. Congrats, Bob, for an incredible career in affordable housing and a remarkable 11 years with VCDC! Under his leadership, our organization has built a strong, resilient team of dedicated professionals, helping to create or preserve 5300+ affordable homes in our service area. While we are sad to see Bob step down, we are confident in the future of our organization. Stay tuned for more updates on our CEO search, upcoming events, and how we plan to honor Bob’s career. We are incredibly grateful for his years of service and look forward to celebrating him with all of you! Last week, our team members Alicia, Raven, Elijah, Russ and Molly volunteered with the Richmond SPCA to help with clean up tasks and play with some adorable pups and kitties! The Richmond SPCA is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter committed to saving and protecting animal lives. Looking for a new furry friend to bring a permanent home to? After months of planning and anticipation, VCDC proudly hosted the annual National Association of State and Local Equity Funds (NASLEF) Conference in #Charlottesville, VA last week ?????? NASLEF is a nonprofit association that brings together equity fund organizations committed to advancing community development. Its mission is to foster a deeper understanding of tax credit and financing programs, advocate for community development resources, and support the professional growth of its member organizations—all in service of the communities we represent. Hosting NASLEF members in Charlottesville was a meaningful experience for us, given our longstanding history in resident-centered development within the city. The conference provided an opportunity for our NASLEF colleagues to witness firsthand several thriving affordable housing communities in the area. Our team members, including Bob Newman, Chris Sterling, Jeff Meyer and Steve Bleile, helped lead walking and bus tours of key properties in our portfolio. We also organized a tour of Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, a staple of the city that showcases its small businesses and local flare. We were also proud to have McKenson Smart, Raven Bates, and Alicia Peel represent VCDC in NASLEF’s Emerging Leaders Group, a collective of innovators focused on leadership strategies in our industry. A special congratulations to Raven, who co-chairs the ELP Program and was honored with the NASLEF Emerging Leader of the Year Award! A huge thank you to Tammy Neale, CEO of Virginia Housing, who delivered a keynote presentation; to Samual Sanders, City Manager of Charlottesville, who delivered the welcoming speech; and to VCDC staff members Laura Dupuy, Steve Bleile and Raven Bates, who presented in conference sessions. We extend our gratitude to our NASLEF colleagues for joining us in Charlottesville this year. Your partnership is invaluable, and we look forward to reconnecting at next year’s conference! VCDC is excited to announce that we recently received Approved Mortgage Broker Status permitting our organization to represent developers seeking loan products from Virginia Housing in their multi-family rental programs! This will enable our team to extend its role in affordable housing development beyond tax credit services into the lending field with utilization of the wonderful lending opportunities available at Virginia Housing.
