VCA Green is proud to share details about our recently LEED v4 BD+C-certified project: the five-story, 117,956-square-foot Queen Street Storage facility owned by Baranof Holdings in Honolulu! VCA Green collaborated with architect Ware Malcomb as the LEED consultant. As a result, the project reduced energy use by 50% compared to ASHRAE standards by utilizing efficient lighting, HVAC systems, and solar power. Water used for irrigation was reduced by 50%, and indoor water use was reduced by 30% through the use of low-flow and flush plumbing fixtures. https://lnkd.in/gCGCquSU #VCAGreen #LEED #greenbuilding #sustainabledevelopment #queenstreetstorage

VCA Green is thrilled to announce that the Environmental Nature Center was selected to receive a California Green Building Award for Merit in the Waste & Circular Solutions Category at the 20th annual USGBC California Green Gala! VCA Green is proud to have partnered with ENC on the TRUE Platinum Certification and was honored to receive the Merit award together last Wednesday evening in Los Angeles (shown here [l to r] with VCA Green’s Robyn Vettraino, ENC’s Lori Whalen and Bo Glover, and VCA Green’s Aliza White, Amanda Priestley-Milianta, and Moe Fakih). This prestigious recognition celebrates ENC’s commitment to circular solutions and zero-waste operations. The ENC's Platinum TRUE Zero-Waste Certification is in addition to their original LEED Platinum Certification. Their dedicated team not only took a proactive approach to identify and implement improvements for the highest level of certification but also continues to follow and promote sustainable practices in everyday operations. This unwavering commitment to low-waste operations for both employees and visitors has resulted in an impressive 97% waste diversion rate, which is equal to the annual GHG emissions from 43 gallons of gasoline and 16 cylinders of home barbecue propane! U.S. Customs & Immigration Services’ Tustin office has officially received One Green Globes rating! With the help of Ware Malcomb and Dempsey Construction, Inc., USCIS renovated their office space with new efficient features, including energy-saving lighting and controls, low flow plumbing fixtures, and EnergyStar equipment. During the construction process, roughly 86% of construction waste was diverted from the landfill, over 20% more than what minimum required by the state. Occupant comfort and health was prioritized with the use of non-toxic, low VOC interior products and well-ventilated spaces. A vibrant interior mural also provides a visually appealing touch!

CALGreen updates, as of today, are in effect.
CA Policy Update: Today's the day! July 1st is when the new #CALGreen Code shifts its #ElectricVehicle parking requirements to 50% of total parking and when #LifeCycleAssessment (#LCA) for embodied carbon is triggered for buildings over 100k sq. ft. All projects being submitted to plan check for the first time must adhere to these new requirements. We can support you. We have been successfully implementing #LCAstudies with minimal pain and we have been delivering turnkey CALGreen compliance since 2011. Here's a post from earlier this year explaining the details: #GreenBuildingCode #EmbodiedCarbon #Electrification

See below for updated rules on elimination of gas water heaters.
Regulatory Update: (Phase out of gas boilers) The South Coast Air Quality Management District #SCAQMD (Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, and San Bernardino counties) updated rule 1146.2 to require #New and #ExistingBuildings to transition to #ZeroEmission residential and commercial building #WaterHeaters beginning January 1, 2026. Heat pump air source or CO2 refrigerant source water heaters will need to replace gas boilers in this region when installing new or replacing existing units. This aligns with CA Energy Code's push for decarbonization. #Title24 #carbonneutral #energycode #resiliance

Regulatory update: Starting July 1, 2024, nonresidential projects of 100,000 square feet or more in California will need to submit a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) during plan check. But what is an LCA, and what benefits can one provide? We delved into one of our San Diego projects and the construction cost savings our LCA, in partnership with VCA Structural, provided to the client. #CALGreen #LCA #greenbuilding #sustainabledevelopment #VCAGreen
