Not long ago, Platform teams were a bit of a rarity in venture capital. Today, they're a point of pride for most VC firms. Why the shift? Because providing founders with expert guidance on business development, partnerships, and more is a game-changer. I recently spoke with my colleague Matt Weinberger about the evolution of the Platform role, its impact on startup acceleration, and the reasons behind its explosive popularity.
I'm still a relative novice in the world of VC. So, in the spirit of expanding my own understanding, I sat down with my colleague, the good and great Domenic Perri, to talk about his role as head of platform. What I learned: There's a ton of value in having someone you can call when you need a warm introduction to somebody at the major tech companies, or when you could use a little coaching on your partnership strategy.
