CANstruction voting is live — help fight hunger and cast your vote for VCBO’s “Through the Arch” sculpture! Our entry, inspired by Utah’s iconic landscapes, is made from over 1,000 cans that will be donated to the Utah Food Bank to help fight hunger in our state. Titled “Through the Arch,” our design showcases Utah’s famous red rock formations, featuring a snow-capped peak, a rugged arch, and a flowing river, capturing the beauty and harmony of Utah’s natural resources and seasonal transitions. This year’s theme, “iCANic Utah,” celebrates the state’s remarkable landmarks and natural beauty. Hosted by AIA Utah, this annual event brings together talented design and construction teams to create stunning sculptures while supporting a meaningful cause. Visit the lobby of 95 State to see our sculpture and cast your vote for the People's Choice Award by donating through AIA Utah’s virtual food drive. Each $1 donation equals one vote, and every vote helps fight hunger and food insecurity in Utah! ?? Vote here: https://ow.ly/xAoB50U9rEu A huge shoutout to our amazing team and partners at R&O Construction, Van Boerum and Frank Associates (VBFA), KPFF Consulting Engineers, and Calder Richards Structural Engineers for bringing this vision to life! #CANstruction #UtahFoodBank #HungerRelief #UtahArchitects #VCBOArchitects

  • Happy America Recycles Day!?? At VBFA, we recognize the importance of sustainability and are working to minimizing our environmental footprint.?Here’s how we’re promoting recycling and sustainable practices: ?? Greenery for Every 100 sq ft: Our offices feature plants in every 100 square feet, not only enhancing the look of our workspace, but also improving air quality ?? Accessible Recycle Bins: We have recycle bins placed throughout our offices, making it easy for everyone to participate in our recycling efforts ?? Reusable Breakroom Essentials: To reduce single-use waste, our breakroom is stocked with glass reusable dishes instead of disposable ones How You Can Make a Difference: ?? Separate Your Waste: Utilize designated recycling bins to ensure materials are properly processed ?? Choose Reusables: Opt for reusable items like water bottles, coffee cups, and lunch containers ?? Educate and Encourage: Share recycling tips within your community and inspire others to adopt sustainable practices Recycling isn’t just for the kitchen or the curb – it’s integral to our approach in engineering. By designing buildings that reduce waste, reuse resources, and contribute to a healthier environment, we ensure that sustainability is embedded in every project. ????? Looking ahead, we are enthusiastic about the future of sustainable design. We are exploring opportunities to embrace strategies such as designing for deconstruction and reuse. This forward-thinking approach not only aligns with our sustainable design practices but also reinforces our commitment to recycling and environmental responsibility. Together, we can build a more sustainable future. Let’s continue to innovate and lead the way in environmentally responsible engineering. #AmericaRecyclesDay #NationalRecyclingDay #Sustainability #EngineeringExcellence #SustainableDesign #Recycling #GreenBuilding #VBFA #EcoFriendly #FutureOfEngineering #NetZero

  • Today, our Principal Jacob Beck attended Murray High School’s Career Day to share his path to engineering and inspire students exploring future career options. With over 100 students signed up, the group was split into three different sessions. It was encouraging to see so many young minds eager to learn about the possibilities in engineering! At VBFA, we take pride in fostering education and building trust within our community. By participating in events like this, we're not only supporting the next generation of engineers but also reinforcing our dedication to leading with experience and fostering a culture of excellence and mentorship. Thank you to Murray High School for hosting such an engaging event and to the students for their insightful questions and enthusiasm! #futureofengineering #mentorship #careerday #futureengineers

  • ???? Guess the Engineer Based on Their Candy! ???? At VBFA, we recognize the importance of connecting beyond the workplace, and we would like to thank everyone who attended the Trunk or Treat and contributed to its success. This event provided a fun opportunity to bring together our teams and their families, reinforcing relationships that support our work culture and strengthen collaboration. What made this event even more fun was that each of our team members selected their own treats to share with trick-or-treaters. We had some excellent choices, along with a few surprises! Get to know our team a little better by guessing which engineer chose each treat and let us know how many you guessed correctly!

VBFA is honored to have been invited by Holli Adams, Principal Architect at Architectural Nexus, to attend the celebration of the Salt Lake County Daybreak Library—Utah’s first Certified Zero Energy Commercial Building! Our team, led by Spencer Howell played a key role in the mechanical design of this sustainable project helping the library achieve exceptional energy performance: - 500+ solar panels generate 102% of the library’s energy needs, giving back to the power grid - Thermal wells beneath the library provide ground-source energy, using the Earth’s heat to warm water for the library during winter - Sun tubes integrated into the rooftop garden, combined with expansive windows throughout the building, flood the interiors with natural light, significantly reducing the need for artificial lighting, creating a welcoming and sustainable space This project showcases the impact of thoughtful engineering, community input, and a commitment to sustainability. Thank you, Holli, for including VBFA in this celebration and for your leadership in designing a building that serves both the environment and the community. #netzeroenergy #sustainableengineering #netzeroengineering #mechanicalengineering #sustainability

Exciting progress is happening at Brigham Young University–Hawaii! During the 2024 Ohana Meeting, the campus community received updates on the transformative McKay Complex replacement project. The latest renderings reveal more of the vision for replacing existing facilities with five new buildings that will reshape the heart of campus in the coming years. Since leading the master planning effort in 2020, VCBO has worked closely with university leaders to reimagine its spaces with flexibility, an enhanced student experience, and the university’s mission in mind — setting the course for the next 50 years. The more than 300,000-square-foot complex will house a welcome center, classrooms, offices, conference spaces, an auditorium, campus services, and vibrant student life spaces, all designed with architectural themes and forms that honor Hawaii’s cultural heritage. Building plans are currently in the review and permitting phase, with groundbreaking anticipated in the summer of 2025 and final completion in 2031. We are thrilled to see this monumental project continue to take shape and look forward to the transformation of the beautiful Laie campus. #HigherEducation #EducationDesign #CampusDesign #VCBOArchitects
