?? St. Patrick: The Patron Saint of Engineers? ?? While St. Patrick is best known for bringing Christianity to Ireland, his impact on engineering is just as fascinating. Familiar with Romanized architecture, he helped introduce the use of lime mortar and the concept of arches—advancements that shaped the construction of Ireland’s iconic stone churches, many of which still stand today. Because of his contributions to engineering and construction, St. Patrick is recognized as the patron saint of engineers. At Varitec Controls, we appreciate the builders, problem-solvers, and innovators who create the foundations of our industry. Today, we celebrate their ingenuity and the lasting legacy of St. Patrick! Happy Pi Day! At Varitec, we know that precision matters—whether it's tuning a building automation system for peak efficiency or calculating the perfect slice-to-pizza ratio. And what better way to celebrate 3.14 than a slice (or two or three) of well-earned pizza? Did you know? Pi (π) is essential in HVAC controls! From circular duct sizing to airflow calculations, this irrational number helps us optimize system performance and energy efficiency. So today, we’re not just enjoying a slice—we’re raising a toast to the math and engineering that keep buildings running smarter! Enjoy Pi Day, and may your calculations always be precise! #PiDay #HVACControls #BuildingAutomation #VaritecControls #Pizza #Controls

Another day of highlighting one of our amazing Tucson Team Members! Breaking Boundaries with Amanda Johnson! For Women in Construction (WIC) Week, we sat down with Amanda Johnson, a Tucson Owner Direct Account Executive at Varitec Controls and Service Solutions, to discuss her journey in the industry, the challenges she's faced, and how we can continue to push for progress. Q: What advice would you give to women considering this field? A: “Do it! You don’t know what you’re missing out on until you try. The opportunities are bigger than you think.” Q: Have you faced challenges as a woman in the industry? A: “When I moved into outside sales, customers would automatically call my male colleague instead of me. I had to stop bringing him along and build those relationships myself. That changed everything.” Q: What can the industry do better to support women in the trades? A: “The industry needs to recognize that women’s experiences are different—not less qualified, just different. We need to move beyond outdated attitudes and focus on real inclusion.” Amanda’s insights are a must-read for anyone passionate about driving change in the construction industry. Redefining the Blueprint with Lauren Nunez! For Women in Construction (WIC) Week, we sat down with Lauren Nunez, a Tucson Project Manager at Varitec Controls and Service Solutions, to discuss her journey in the industry, the challenges she's faced, and how we can continue to push for progress. Q: How has the industry changed for women since you started? A: "When I first started, it was just me. Now, you see more women stepping into leadership roles, working in the field, doing the job—and that’s incredible." Q: What’s one piece of advice for women entering the field? A: "Stand your ground, communicate effectively, and don’t let emotions take over. People respect confidence and straight talk." Q: What can the industry do better to support women in the trades? A: "It shouldn’t be about gender—it should be about developing talent. More companies should invest in their people the way Varitec does." Lauren’s insights are a must-read for anyone passionate about driving change in the construction industry. Read the full interview by clicking the image.
