“How do I know what kind of compression socks to get?” We hear this question often from our patients. Not all compression socks are created equal, and quality is key when you’re looking for compression garments that will last past a few wears. Here are a few things you need to know when selecting a good pair of compression socks.? LEVELS:? - Mild compression (15-20mmHg):?Prevention and relief of minor to moderate varicose veins, relief of tired aching legs, relief of minor swelling of feet and legs.? - Moderate compression (20-30mmHg): Prevention and relief of moderate to severe varicose veins, treatment of moderate to severe lymphatic edema and management of active ulcers or post thrombotic syndrome.? - Firm compression (30-40mmHg): Post-surgery, Ulcer management, post-thrombotic syndrome. As Dr. Randleman likes to say, “The best compression is the kind you’ll actually wear.” If socks are too hard to get on, chances are good you won’t wear them. Find a level of compression that you can handle. SIZING:? In the morning after you wake up and before your legs swell, measure the circumference of your ankle (around your ankle), the circumference of your calf and the length of your calf (from the knee to the heel sitting with your legs at a 90-degree angle). Use the sizing guide on the compression sock packaging to find the right fit for you. Compression socks are an important tool to help keep your veins healthy year-round!
