FOOTWEARISE PANEL - LOOPING BACK PRODUCTION Today′s election results make the subject of this Footwearise panel even more important and urgent. Trump has announced high tariffs on all kinds of consumer products coming from Asia, including footwear. This could give an extra boost to local production, but then we will have to ramp it up fast! These 3 companies are examples of how to do that, since they are already making shoes - or parts - in the United States. VARIANT3D has its own beautiful knitting factory in the hills of Malibu, and has developed groundbreaking software to design and program knitted products - including uppers - in full 3D. We are offering a demo of the software in our lab on Wednesday, December 4. Shloop - The Shoe Loop in Mississippi also uses knitting as a key technology, but combines it with both traditional as well as other methods of manufacturing. My friend Garrett Gerson has a breakthrough technology and has built an amazing company, VARIANT3D They do 3D knitting and they are able to, for instance, take an entire tennis shoe and knit it in a way that there's zero waste. One of the great pollutants of our world is clothing and particularly clothing waste as it's being produced. But this has zero waste. Amazing company, amazing people, and it'll be a lot of fun spending time with them today.

Last month, we joined forces with For.Tomorrow Communications, The Woolmark Company, and the Sustainable Fiber Alliance for an impactful roundtable held at the Explorers Club in New York. This unique event brought fiber farmers to the forefront—those often hidden within the commodity trade system—to share their stories and insights. As the fashion supply chain becomes more polarized, we aimed to shift the narrative towards inclusivity and collaboration. Leading luxury brands, policymakers, and even UN representatives gathered to listen, learn, and engage directly with the farmers leading sustainability efforts. As The Woolmark Company's North American Development Center, we’re thrilled to announce the completion of our new educational display. Each element of the display is designed to showcase the unique properties and processes behind wool production. From raw wool to yarn, you'll learn every step of the journey. Earlier this year, we launched our pilot project in collaboration with the Woolmark team and the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), integrating wool fibers for software validation in the redesign of the LACI Amphitheater. Using wool fibers for software validation, we redesigned the LACI Amphitheater, showcasing how textiles, technology, and architecture come together. Our shared focus on sustainability with Woolmark drives innovation. By leveraging LOOP and integrating wool, we can reshape the future of fashion, footwear, and more.
