Pioneering the future of LH2-powered shipping ?? At VARD, we’re pushing the boundaries of maritime design! In collaboration with ArianeGroup, North Star, and 11 industry partners,?we’re setting sail on a groundbreaking project: designing a Service Operation Vessel (SOV) optimized from the ground up for Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) operations. ?? ? A key milestone on our journey is achieving the AiP for our LH2-SOV, featuring innovative below-deck hydrogen storage. This breakthrough will not only redefine safety and integration standards but also provide us with an in-depth understanding of the unique challenges and vast opportunities that LH2 presents in maritime operations. Windward is proud to share that our CSOV ?Windward Athens“ has officially been launched at VARD Shipyards Romania - Tulcea this week! ?? This is the first of four cutting-edge vessels that will join the Windward fleet in 2025. The ship will be equipped with the latest innovative technology such as an electrical driven, motion compensated gangway from Ampelmann Operations, an electric 3D compensated crane from Seaonics AS and the latest battery-hybrid technology with Methanol-ready engines from MAN Energy Solutions to enable more sustainable maritime operations.? We are on our way! ?? One of the world's largest research initiatives to strengthen green maritime development, #FMEMarTrans officially opened this week. At the MarTrans centre, VARD and 65 partners from the maritime industry and research environments will focus on research, innovation, and education to accelerate the green transition in maritime shipping, while increasing value creation and exports for the Norwegian maritime industry.
