Can Cannabis Reform deliver social justice? ?? In this Benzinga interview w/ Abbey Higginbotham, where I call for DE-scheduling & active lobbying for change at the Benzinga's Cannabis Capital Conference. ?? We discuss the importance of descheduling over rescheduling before highlighting the struggle surrounding social equity in the cannabis industry. I emphasize the importance of being involved in the regulatory process, pointing to the work being done by VapeSAFER within the vape industry. The future of cannabis reform is in our hands: we need a comprehensive approach that prioritizes social equity & industry growth. Here are some excerpts: ?? "We believe in descheduling completely. We want to deschedule, deschedule, deschedule," Stower stated, underscoring her concern that rescheduling cannabis may disproportionately benefit larger companies with pharmaceutical backgrounds. While rescheduling could offer incremental progress, particularly by allowing banking access and tax write-offs under 280E, I argue that descheduling would truly level the playing field for smaller, craft businesses. "A reschedule is a nice idea for the next step. But, in reality, it's just going to allow only those with pharmaceutical backgrounds and access to those resources to produce it. Cannabis is built on the backs of patients on social rights activists," Stower noted. She urged the industry to remain focused on its foundational values, adding, "Love can be lucrative too, and the ways that we do it, baking into the triple bottom line — people over profit and your reputation over revenue. Despite the challenges posed by new legislation, such as California's recent ban on hemp products containing THC, Stower remains optimistic about the future of the cannabis industry. "We're all in the same boat, and a rising tide raises all boats together," she said. . . . Businesses can and MUST self-regulate *while* working with legislators! ???????? We applaud Senator Wyden for the introduction of the Cannabinoid Safety and Regulation Act (CSRA) — an important milestone on our journey towards a national market for #cannabinoids that protects public health and safety, while preserving consumer choice.?We were pleased to see the inclusion of important, well-crafted provisions to ensure that products are manufactured safely, advertised appropriately, labeled accurately, and not sold to minors. VapeSAFER and its members look forward to working with Senator Wyden’s office and other industry stakeholders to achieve our shared north star: a well-regulated, safe, and robust market for cannabinoid products. We’ll be engaging in critical discussions on key provisions including: ? The FDA’s level of discretion in regulating cannabinoids ? Flavoring for cannabinoid vape products ? Successful strategies for youth prevention ? Protection of adult consumer choice ? Inclusion of small businesses Legislative reform must strike the right balance to protect consumer safety, while avoiding overly restrictive rules or arbitrarily burdensome approval processes that only serve to restrict adult consumer choice and push consumers into the unregulated market. ?? Check out this fantastic article by Randy Reed delving into the critical distinctions between e-cigarettes and cannabis vaporizers. Randy explains the importance of science-driven standards like those being developed by ASTM International. And he highlights the work of groups like VapeSAFER to ensure cannabis vapes have a fit-for-purpose regulations to advance consumer safety and choice, rather than a rehash of failed e-cigarette rules.

As the unified voice of the #cannabis #vaping industry, we are proud to submit comments to the Drug Enforcement Administration on the rescheduling of marijuana —advocating for a robust and safe cannabis vape market that protects consumer safety and choice. VapeSAFER supports the proposed rescheduling of marijuana, recognizing the need for updated regulations that reflect the current understanding of marijuana's pharmacological effects and its impact on public health. Transitioning marijuana to Schedule III is justified by substantial scientific evidence supporting its medical utility and lower potential for abuse compared to Schedule II substances. If performed in a thoughtful manner, rescheduling will facilitate research and innovation, particularly concerning safer consumption methods such as vaporization. Thank you to those industry leaders who are part of our coatition and contributed to our comments. Read more at?bit.ly/vapesafer-dea #drugpolicyreform #vapesafer
