Consider sharing those listed below with military new hires: * Be curious about other people and their work. Understand their role and how to add value before proposing changes. * Respect history. Show respect for what’s currently in place and acknowledge the years of hard work it took to get there. * Establish a relationship with a mentor. A trusted mentor can answer the many questions not addressed in policy manuals. * Don’t rush relationship building. It could take weeks, months, or even a year to build them. Are you proactively hiring Veterans? If not, why not? Many employers understand the business case for hiring Veterans and are committed to it for the long haul. A Sept. 2022 Wall Street Journal article highlighted: * JPMorgan Chase has hired more than 16,000 Veterans since 2011 and is the founder of the Veteran Jobs Mission - a coalition of more than 250 companies dedicated to employing talent from the U.S. military community. They want to hire two million Vets and 200,000 military spouses by 2032. * Amazon pledged in July 2021 to hire 100,000 U.S. Veterans and military spouses by 2024, currently employing more than 45,000. * Wells Fargo hosts an eight-week Veteran Employment Transition paid-internship program offering successful participants the opportunity to convert directly to full-time and are hoping to hire 130 graduates this year. * According to the Veterans Metrics Initiative, “61% of Veterans are underemployed and 55% believe that they are more experienced than their current job requires."
