Vanderbilt Blockchain is proud to announce the launch of Anchor DAO, a 501(c)(3) non-profit DAO LLC, and the first of its kind legally registered in Tennessee. On Monday, February 27, 2023, members of Vanderbilt Blockchain’s executive team journeyed to the Tennessee State Capitol to officially register this LLC. A “DAO” is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization, an organization that operates on a blockchain network without the need for a central authority or intermediary. In a DAO, the decision-making power is distributed among the members, who can propose, vote and implement changes to the organization's rules and policies. The rules and governance of the organization are encoded in the smart contracts, making them transparent and tamper-proof. As of April 2022, Tennessee became the second state in the U.S. to designate a special business entity for DAOs, allowing LLCs to register as decentralized organizations. These protections will enable Tennessee to rise as a hotspot for blockchain and cryptocurrency ventures. Anchor DAO is the bridge between academia and Web3, with the mission of connecting Vanderbilt students to Web3 opportunities out of the scope of the university bureaucracy. Some of the benefits that come with DAO membership include access to scholarships and travel grants, paid contract work, participation in token delegation, and more. Being in the DAO rewards members for participation and contribution to the organization. We believe that these benefits will help our members succeed in the rapidly evolving world of Web3. Meet our next co-hosts for MBC 2024: Vanderbilt Blockchain Founded in 2021, Vanderbilt Blockchain serves as Vanderbilt University’s student-run blockchain organization, which heavily focuses on education and a positive adoption of blockchain technology. The organization starts off by holding an educational cohort, where new blockchain enthusiasts are trained on everything crypto. Additionally, Vanderbilt Blockchain has a dedicated research team with its own investment fund, in collaboration with Dorm DAO. They focus on researching upcoming companies to evaluate good fit for their investments.
