In Vanderbilt's Independent School Leadership Master's program, independent school practitioners unlock their potential as innovators and leaders by exploring and mastering the skills needed to effectively lead an independent school community. Through an inventive blend of online and in-person learning experiences, ISL students partner with current and aspiring independent school leaders who bring an incredible depth of experience and expertise. Together, our learning community works to navigate the complex educational, socio-emotional, fiscal, and operational challenges that independent schools face today. Throughout the program, ISL students have the opportunity to connect with expert scholar-practitioners, engage with members of their cohort on complex issues of relevance to independent school leaders, and learn from world-class Vanderbilt faculty to develop the knowledge and network to lead improvements in the independent school landscape.

Recently I had the pleasure of gathering with the amazing Carley Dryden and Jeffrey Beaton, two alumni of the Peabody Independent School Leadership Master's Program for our admissions webinar for prospective students. I have found that when current students and recent alumni share their stories about their experiences in our program, it gives future students the best possible data they could ask for as they contemplate investing in graduate study. Their perspectives also provide our faculty with a better understanding of ways we can continue to improve and develop our program to best meet our students' needs. Twenty-four Master's candidates in the Vanderbilt Peabody College ISL program are well underway with their second semester of coursework, focusing on Institutional Advancement in Independent Schools with Carrie Grimes, Ed.D. and Systematic Inquiry for Independent Schools with Courtney Preston, PhD. We are looking forward to welcoming them back to campus this weekend for their fall convening, during which they will take a deep dive into their graduate action research projects. Areas of research inquiry include brand identity and school history, student advisory curriculum, lower school academic departmentalization, masculinity and belonging in all-boys schools, faculty evaluation to promote professional growth, strategic character education, and supportive faculty induction practices. I am excited to share that I completed my M. Ed in Independent School Leadership from Vanderbilt Peabody College. I cannot thank my 22 incredible Jay Cohort mates for their support, inspiration, and most importantly friendship over these past 16 months. I have become a better educator and leader because each of these individuals. Also, thank you to our incredible ISL professors, especially Carrie Grimes, Ed.D. and Whitney Walters-Sachs, Ed.D., J.D. for creating an incredible hybrid learning experience.
