We couldn’t let October pass by without recognizing Health Literacy Month! ?? Health literacy is the ability to understand health information and services so you can make informed decisions about your health. It can lead to better health outcomes, lower healthcare costs, and fewer emergency room visits. At Valleywise Health, our Cultural Health Navigators help bridge cultural gaps and build trust within refugee communities. ?? Jeanne Nizigiyimana, MSW, MA, Manager of the Valleywise Center for Refugee and Global Health, says: “Being at the service of the community is the right thing to do. We must listen to our patients as the first experts... understanding how culture shapes health literacy is essential to achieving health equity.” Valleywise Health Foundation is proud to support this essential part of Valleywise Health, working together over the years to make a difference for over 18,000 active refugees who rely on us for culturally attuned care. ?? #HealthLiteracyMonth #ValleywiseHealth #CulturalHealthNavigators?#Refugee
