Thank you to everyone who joined us for this school year's soft launch of Phin’s Café for the 2024-25 school year! We are proud to say our student-run coffee shop has been operating for over two years now! Also, through a special partnership with Vanguard’s horticulture classes, we now are using our home grown herbs and produce to make breakfast sandwiches at Phin's. In exchange, the cafe provides our school's horticultural classes with plants to compost. It’s a rewarding partnership! Thank you to the Eagles Autism Foundation! Their generous support helped launch our coffee shop initiative and part of our on-campus Pre-Employment Training Center (PETC) program. EAF's philanthropy, along with funding from ESSER grants and the Brutten Family Foundation, ensures the continued success and sustainability of our very special Phin's Café.

It’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! During NDEAM, we recognize the skills and contributions of workers with disabilities while advocating for inclusive workplaces that empowers individuals to succeed. NDEAM began in 1945 when Congress designated the first week of October to recognize individuals with physical disabilities in an effort to raise awareness about their employment struggles and to pay tribute to their contributions to the workforce. Over time, this week of recognition evolved into a month-long observance for all individuals with disabilities. This year’s theme is ‘Access to Good Jobs for All’ highlights the importance of ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, has equitable opportunities in the workforce. According to a study from the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute., about 42% of young adults on the spectrum aged 21-25 never worked for pay, while those who worked part-time earned $9.11/ hour and only $8.08/hour full-time. NDEAM brings light to these issues and emphasizes the importance of inclusive work environments, the value of workers with disabilities, and equal opportunities for all. Customized Workforce Solutions (CWS), a program of Valley Forge Educational Services, offers individuals employment-related services to adults with disabilities. Our process guides adults with disabilities to define their employment goals, discover their vocational interests and support them in obtaining inclusive, competitive employment.
