Small acts can create a big impact: that’s the spirit in which thousands of ASML colleagues volunteer their time every year with organizations that make a positive contribution to our communities. I’m visiting the ASML San Jose office this week, and it was important to me to see and experience our partnership with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley firsthand. Second Harvest provides food to an average of about 500,000 people every month in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties – including more than 135,000 children and 120,000 senior citizens. ASML has committed to supporting Second Harvest with $1 million a year for five years, which goes towards building a new food distribution facility. We also donate $250,000 a year to their operations, enabling them to provide free nutritious groceries. I joined a group of more than 15 colleagues from #TeamASML to volunteer alongside them. We sorted and packaged food at the Cypress warehouse. The energy and the spirit of the team were very true to ASML's values and culture. We were proud to be, for a moment, part of the 45,000 volunteers supporting Second Harvest. Small acts also sometimes aren’t enough. So, we complement the grass-roots engagement of our people with strong partnerships, investing in areas where we can make a meaningful impact and thrive together. After today’s visit, I can only invite all our industry peers to join in! Thanks to the inspiring and hard-working team at Second Harvest for the important work that you do. It was an honor to make a small contribution to it.

Cow burps are a major source of #methane emissions, a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere and contributes to #globalwarming. One of Valhalla’s grantees, Innovative Genomics Institute, is working to develop new tools to block the microbes in cow guts from creating methane in the first place, sparing the Earth — and the cow — from the effects of the gas. Click below to learn how IGI is taking on the cow burp problem.
Animal agriculture leads to greenhouse-gas emissions. Gut microbes are the main source – but could they also hold the solution? IGI researchers Matthias Hess and Ermais Kebreab are tackling the cow burp problem. Watch the full video here: https://ow.ly/VKQ050SlatZ #microbiome #ClimateChange
