Thank you Silicon Valley Capital Club for hosting a Valdés Math Fundraiser! The event was filled with excitement, featuring a silent auction and raffle prizes that added to the fun. Attendees had the pleasure of hearing from former Valdés student and Latinas Contra Cancer Executive Director, Darcie Green, who shared how Valdés impacted her life. We were honored to receive recognition from Mayor Montano of Milpitas for our commitment to education. Additionally, we had the privilege of presenting Marcos Herrera, Valdés Math's prior Board President, with a Resolution for his excellence in community leadership. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the fundraiser. Your support is instrumental in our mission to empower students through mathematics education. Today, on César Chávez Day, we reflect on the remarkable legacy of a visionary leader, activist, and champion of workers' rights. César Chávez's unwavering dedication to social justice, equality, and dignity for farmworkers continues to inspire generations. Did you know?? César Chávez co-founded the United Farm Workers alongside Dolores Huerta. Chávez issued a bold call for Americans to acknowledge that the fruits and vegetables on their dining tables were harvested by individuals deprived of fundamental human rights. Leading a monumental march of farmworkers from Delano to Sacramento in 1966, Chávez initiated a significant grape boycott that rallied widespread support nationwide. His tireless efforts were instrumental in the passage of the 1975 California Agricultural Labor Relations Act, which made our state the first in U.S. history to give farmworkers the right to join a union. At Valdés Math, we proudly stand with the Latino and immigrant communities among our students, staff, and their families.
