Yesterday, on day two of the 2025 NSRP | National Shipbuilding Research Program All Panel Meeting, Patrick Cahill, of CahillConsulting, presented the “Shipbuilding CoBot Alliance (SCA)” project update. SCA provides training with a focus on shipbuilding-specific applications so that those who receive training are immediately productive in their shipyards and will be effective as CoBot operators. Thank you to GENEDGE for leading the charge to support workforce development, Tabet Manufacturing for hosting the training center in Norfolk, VA and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) for hosting the Training center in Marinette, WI. VDMC is pleased to be part of the Shipbuilding Cobotic Alliance (SBA) as an Alliance Partner. The SCA is opening a new Cobotic welding services center in Norfolk in April and is seeking a welding training supervisor to be part of the delivery team. This person will help train company employees in managing a Cobotic welding center, and assist companies in parts production process qualifications for Navy applications. Referrals are welcome! We can't believe it but the Digital Ship Challenge is almost here! We are still taking RSVP's from representatives to participate in our Community Showcase. Sign up today if interested! On March 15, we will welcome over 100 local high school students interested in the maritime industry to participate in an exciting challenge: designing and constructing a support vessel capable of maintaining stability in open ocean conditions. As part of the challenge, we invite representatives from local maritime companies to meet with our student teams. The Community Showcase allows the students to learn more about the various types of careers in the industry and the numerous training and education opportunities available in the region. We ask that you select one or two representatives to meet with the students in the margins of the challenge throughout the day. Besides providing them with a general overview of your company, we welcome your representatives to share their personal career path to the maritime industry and to discuss internships, apprenticeships, or any other training programs you may offer.
