It was an honour to participate in such an insightful event alongside very distinguished experts, where we underscored the critical need to invest in prevention and immunisation. In my contribution, I reinforced that investing in prevention, particularly immunisation, is not just a health measure—it is a strategic imperative: ?? A safeguard for the #resilience of our healthcare systems, society, and economy. ??? A cornerstone of #EUHealthSecurity. #Immunisation is: 1 - A Vital #Shield for Health and Resilience ??? It empowers individuals to protect themselves and those around them. ??? It strengthens healthcare systems, ensuring they remain open and accessible to those who need them most. 2 - An #Investment for Every Stage of Life, Delivering Short-, Mid-, and Long-Term Benefits ??? Health & Wellbeing:?Prevents diseases and their complications. ??? Healthcare system sustainability:?Minimizes healthcare costs and resource use 3 - A key driver of #EconomicResilience, reducing absenteeism and enhancing workforce resilience Immunisation doesn’t just prevent illness—it prevents complications from infections and the management of these complications. The impact is undeniable: ???#Flu increases #HeartAttack risk 6x in #cardiovascular patients. ?? Over 30% of patients hospitalized with #RSV have underlying CVD complications. ?? Immunisation could prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths related to #AMR globally each year. ?? Immunisation prevents infection-related #cancers such as #HPV and #HepB- as referenced by and with concrete recommendations from the #EUBeatingCancerPlan. 4 - A #HighImpact for still low Investment With an?adult immunisation ROI of 19, the #FiscalFlexibility within the #StabilityandGrowthPact presents a?unique opportunity?to increase investment in prevention, esp. immunisation. Currently, prevention represents bearly 3-5% of national healthcare budgets and immunisation just about 0.5%. A budget increase could yield profound benefits for population health in the short, medium, and long term. #TimetoActNow: The Window for #PreventionForChange Is Open With the?upcoming annual update of the Mid-Term Fiscal Plan?(April 2025), Member States can position appropriately investment in prevention & immunisation, to support economic and social resilience, in? #Appendix_VI. Policymakers have the flexibility to make meaningful changes—a rare opportunity to secure a healthier, more resilient future. #Italy?is well placed to pioneer such bold?#PreventionForChange?move Thank you Nicoletta Luppi, Marina Panfilo,?MSD Italia for leading on this important, forward looking, engagement. #WeWontRest #PreventionForChange
#MSD #InventingforLife25 #IFL2025

In Spain, regional authorities play a key role in implementing vaccination programmes. While all regions follow a national calendar, they have a degree of freedom in how they deliver vaccines. In Galicia, northeastern Spain, a wide range of stakeholders from the public and private sectors are working together to achieve a common goal: better protection against vaccine-preventable diseases. ?? Immunisation has significant public health and socio-economic benefits – and yet, most EU Member States spend less than 0.5% of their healthcare budgets on immunisation. It is time to see immunisation as an investment, not a cost #VaccinesForLife #WeWontRest
