The presidential debate results are out and there is no denying it: Kamala Harris decisively outperformed Donald Trump. The analysis, conducted by Mediaprobe using biometrics through GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) technology, provides a nuanced and objective measure of the emotional impact and audience engagement throughout the debate. There’s no sugarcoating it. Immigration and social and civil rights—particularly reproductive rights—were the topics where Harris excelled compared to Trump. Notably, Harris’ closing statement garnered exceptionally high engagement scores, while Trump fell flat. Our analysis is based on a sample of 500 viewers across the U.S. who watched the sessions live on seven different networks from their homes while wearing Mediaprobe proprietary biometric GSR sensors—our largest biometric measurement operation to date. This approach, with viewers in their home environments and choosing the network of their preference, offers a more authentic representation of debate reception compared to controlled laboratory settings. The graph highlights the Affective Score = EIS + dial, and each candidate has a score from 0 to 100 for each topic. Mediaprobe’s EIS (Emotional Impact Score) is an objective, comparable metric of engagement that goes beyond eye tracking to reflect true audience response to content. Dial is a metric that measures valence (sentiment).
