关于我们

The University of Washington Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D) works to increase diversity on campus and enrich the collegiate experience of all UW students, faculty and staff. Mission We create pathways for diverse populations to access postsecondary opportunities, nurture and support their academic success, and cultivate a campus climate that enriches the educational experience for all. Vision We are leaders in advancing equity for underrepresented groups in higher education, and build from our legacy of advocacy to promote broad inclusion and enact positive change. Values Excellence – We follow the highest standards of quality as practitioners, researchers and staff who serve American Indian/Alaska Native, underrepresented minority and economically disadvantaged populations, and those who are first in their families to attend college. We hold each other accountable to model diversity, engage in creative thinking to advance new and powerful ideas, and act with integrity and compassion. Equity – We embrace and find strength in the diversity of our campus and surrounding community. We are committed to providing students, faculty and staff the tools and resources needed to be successful. Access – We design multiple pathways for opportunity and success. Community – We create a supportive and inclusive environment for students, faculty and staff. Social Justice – We raise consciousness and advance critical thinking about racial equity, broad inclusion and diversity. Innovation – We challenge ourselves to be an innovative leader in higher education. We seek new and cutting-edge programs that promote access, equity and inclusion. Our programs serve: Over 25,000 students in 85 school districts, 179 schools and 19 two-year colleges through the state of Washington as they prepare and plan for college. Over 6,000 UW undergraduate students with new student orientation, academic advising, instructional support, mentoring, financial aid and scholarships.

  • OMA&D announces acclaimed journalist Angela King, ‘94, as the next recipient of the 2025 Charles E. Odegaard Award, the University of Washington’s highest community-awarded honor. King will be recognized with the Odegaard Award for her work advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. For three decades, King has produced hard-hitting reports on race and equity, exposed white supremacist organizations in the Pacific Northwest, and has long been a champion of diversity and inclusion in the newsroom. In addition, King has selflessly given back to the University of Washington and is a long-time advocate of OMA&D. The Odegaard Award will be presented to King at OMA&D’s Annual Celebration on May 21, 2025. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gc9p7fHf KUOW Public Radio University of Washington #odegaardaward

In her 20 years at the University of Washington, Professor Ralina Joseph has remained committed to helping her students and the broader community figure out how to talk about race. To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we sat down for a chat with Joseph at the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle, against the backdrop of her Interrupting Privilege exhibit. https://lnkd.in/gaA-xqBQ

I’m #hiring. I have 4 Admissions Counselor positions coming open (3 refill, 1 brand new position!). One is currently posted, the others should be posting soon. For a couple of the positions I have the latitude to hire temps while we complete the permanent hiring. Temporary employees would need to go through the full hiring process to be considered for the permanent position. 1 position will be regionally based in central Washington (Spanish language required), the other 3 positions will be on campus and need to have a background serving one of the following groups: Black/African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Hispanic/Latino (Spanish language required). If you are interested or know someone who would be a good fit, I'd be happy to do an informational interview and see if the temp and/or permanent positions would be a good fit!

"If I could share one thing with all first-generation students, it would be this: Know in your heart that you being on campus is not an accident or just a stroke of luck. You are part of a powerful legacy of learners. Your questions aren't signs that you don't belong — they're proof of your courage to grow. You bring perspectives that add irreplaceable depth to our academic community." - UW Tacoma Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange, Ph.D., first-generation college graduate. #CelebrateFirstGen https://lnkd.in/grRqmFGW
