UWM American Marketing Association

Last Friday, February 21st, the UWM AMA chapter hosted our 2nd Annual Regional Conference. Our theme was “Forge Your Path,” focusing on networking, entrepreneurship, creativity, and professional growth. Our dedicated presidents, Brennen Stevens and Otto Ives worked hard to bring this idea to fruition, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. This conference worked to empower students, allowing them a stepping stone to excel in their careers. With the help of nine sponsors, five universities, five competitions, one incredible keynote speaker, two insightful workshops, and countless opportunities for growth, the vision of the conference was able to come to life. We wanted to give a shoutout to our executive board who worked hard before and during the conference. Thank you to Katherine Du for her continued guidance and support for our chapter and to Kaushal Chari and the Lubar College of Business for their continued support. We also wanted to thank our keynote speaker, Martha Carrigan from Big Shoes Network for her insightful words on personal branding for the students of the conference. Jeff Ganger of Islands of Brilliance and Jeffrey M. of HashtagMKE also were able to share their expertise in their professions during our workshop sessions. Finally, thank you to our sponsors: Northwestern Mutual, Uline, Viking Electric, Apex Energy Solutions, Federated Insurance, Heard Hospitality, Enterprise Mobility, HashtagMKE, and the Lubar College of Business. Your support is instrumental in our chapter’s success. The event’s success was not possible without you. Congratulations to all the competition winners! They were well deserved all around. We couldn’t be prouder as a chapter for the conference’s outcome. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for UWM AMA!

UWM AMA has had a great first semester. We started off strong before the semester started, tabling to increase member involvement. We had some great events to start the semester like pitch competitions, a mock career fair, mock interviews with Sherwin-Williams and Enterprise Mobility, a Milwaukee Bucks Inc. Sports Management Night, Make a Difference Day in Milwaukee neighborhoods, Northwestern Mutual perfect pitch competition, and many more great events. Some students had the opportunity to attend the AMA | Whitewater conference in October as well. By participating in these unique opportunities, students are able to engage with each other while improving their personal and professional skills. We are so excited for the spring semester for our conference this February and many other amazing opportunities.

We are proud to share that the inaugaural UW-Milwaukee Regional Conference held this past February has won University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Program of the Year! We are extremely proud of all the hard work our members, sponsors, university staff, and our advisor as this event took months in the making. A special thanks to Lubar College of Business and Shayla Beaulieu, M.Ed. for providing continuing support to our organization. Also a big shoutout to Andrew Skyberg for winning Undergraduate Student of the Year! Lastly, congratulations to our advisor Katherine Du for being nominated for Organization Advisor of the Year and Evan Domnie for being nominated Organization Leader of the Year!

All year, our members have worked extremely hard in preparation for this conference. Their dedication to competing throughout the year, learning and growing their skills, and always working hard greatly contributed to their success this past week. Our members also got a great opportunity to network and hear from guest speakers to learn how to take our chapter to the next level. We learned about Kohl's history, the core values of the company, as well as opportunities that are available to college students through Kohl's summer internship program. If anyone knows me, they know I LOVE to talk! One reason I chose to pursue a degree in Journalism throughout college, was because of my joy for speaking. Never in a million years did I see myself as a recruiter, but getting to be around people and talk to students on a daily basis, has been such a rewarding experience. Did I think my journalism degree would bring me here? To be a recruiter at Northwestern Mutual? Never! ? But I am so happy it did!!
