Are you part of a community- or faith-based organization? Have you heard of 211? When you want to help and don't know where to start, dial 211 to locate resources in your area. Ask about food, rent, and utilities assistance, emergency shelter and more. The 211 network -- supported by United Way -- is a resource for helping professions. Let's connect! https://untdwy.org/4jRsklw

  • We are thrilled to announce that at next week's Live United Luncheon, taking place on February 6, we will award our inaugural United Way of Forsyth County Inclusive Excellence Awards. This year's recipients are Claudette Weston and Bishop Sir Walter Lee Mack, Jr. Claudette is a Winston-Salem native who has dedicated her life to uniting and uplifting underserved communities. As the founder and CEO of Weston & Associates, she has built a globally successful event management firm, using her platform to advocate for inclusivity and celebrate overlooked achievements. Her commitment to service is evident through her involvement with over 50 boards. Through her leadership, Weston continues to inspire others to connect, collaborate, and build a brighter future. Bishop Mack, also a native of Winston-Salem, is a visionary pastor, author, and leader dedicated to fostering transformative change through faith, education, and service. As the Senior Pastor of Union Baptist Church, he is known for his innovative and holistic approach to ministry, addressing both spiritual and social needs. • An Open Letter to the Forsyth County Community Dear Friends, Our community is at a turning point. In Forsyth County, we face deep and complex challenges: from the persistence of generational poverty to the urgent need for equitable access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. Addressing these issues is not something any one organization can tackle alone, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why United Way of Forsyth County exists—because we believe that by coming together, by joining hands across sectors, neighborhoods, and experiences, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community. United Way of Forsyth County is more than just a funder. We are conveners, collaborators, and catalysts for positive change. Our mission is simple but profound: to bring the people and resources of Forsyth County together to solve problems no single organization can tackle alone. When you support United Way, you’re investing in a team that connects the dots—ensuring that every dollar, every hour volunteered, and every program launched brings us closer to meaningful solutions. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. asked, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Supporting United Way is one powerful answer to that question. We are here to lift each other up and to make sure that our community does not leave anyone behind. Let me give you an example of what that support looks like in action. Picture a single mother working two jobs, struggling to keep her kids in school and her family afloat. She represents so many in our community who work hard every day yet still can’t make ends meet. United Way is here for her and for so many others. Through initiatives focused on early childhood education, job training, and health resources, we’re working to level the playing field so that every family has a fair shot at building a better future. Investing in United Way means committing to real change. It means saying that every child in Forsyth County deserves to start school ready to learn, that every worker deserves opportunities to thrive, and that every person in our community deserves a chance at a healthy, stable, and fulfilling life. Today, I am inviting you to stand with us. Your support fuels the programs, partnerships, and resources that lift up Forsyth County. By giving to United Way, you’re not only helping those in need—you’re building a community where everyone has a chance to succeed. Together, we can be the difference-makers, the bridge-builders, and the advocates for a brighter future in Forsyth County. Let’s support United Way, because when we LIVE UNITED, we are truly unstoppable. Thank you for your partnership and thank you for believing in a brighter future for all. • Last week, an incredible group of volunteers from Wells Fargo came together to create “Welcome Home” kits containing household items for 50 individuals/families who are emerging from social, emotional, and socioeconomic challenges that previously prevented them from living in a stable home environment. The Welcome Home kits will help alleviate the burden of outfitting a new home, enabling these households to focus on building financial security, mental well-being, and social integration. There were four types of Welcome Home kits made, each focusing on a different area of the home: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and cleaning supplies. Thank you, thank you Wells Fargo! #WellsFargo #WFVolunteers #BankofDoing @suziekoonce Juan Austin @jimmyphillips
