Advisory Council Highlight! Meet, Chandra Alexandre, Ph.D., CCAP! Our Advisory Council ensures that we have broad representation, insights, and perspectives from our eight-county Greater Bay Area region and includes members from our volunteers, supporters/donors, community partners, labor movement and people with lived experience with United Way Bay Area programs and services. In a short description, what does it mean to be?Chandra?Alexandre? "It's important to me to bring my intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligence into my commitment to social justice. I believe that personal transformation is a critical part of how individuals can meaningfully and sustainably create community change that centers equity, inclusion, and respect for each person." How do you partner with us to help dismantle poverty? "Thinking about the systems that perpetuate poverty and the power of collective action to dismantle and disrupt the causes of poverty—and not its consequences alone—motivate me to do hard work every day. Working together can open creative solutions to seemingly intractable problems." What is your favorite UWBA program?or initiative and why? "At Community Action Marin, we're a proud #SparkPoint and #VITA/ Free Tax Help Bay Area operator. We embed these programs into a Whole Family Approach that centers people's well-being and addresses challenges across generations. Strengthening opportunities for people of low income is a priority as we do the work of racial and economic justice." ? In everything we do, we are working to build a strong, vibrant, and healthy #BayArea where neighbors work together to create opportunities for all. Our powerhouse Advisory Council members embody this vision.?If you have an interest in being considered for open positions on our Advisory Council, or you would like to nominate a candidate, visit https://lnkd.in/gfs7fPXt.

intersectionality (noun): the complex, cumulative way in which the effects of multiple forms of discrimination (such as racism, sexism, and classism) combine, overlap, or intersect especially in the experiences of marginalized individuals or groups At the intersection of #BlackHistoryMonth and #WomensHistoryMonth lays the fact that for the first time in our 102 year history, we have a CEO who is a Black woman. This was addressed in our Town Hall last month. Check out the clip below. Keisha Browder also spoke about this in her latest CEO blog. There comes a moment when sharing your legacy becomes a priority. Our friend, James Matz, truly showcased this with his Planned Giving contribution to UWBA. By leaving his estate, he guaranteed that his kindness would keep making a positive impact on the community. "I tried to convince him to put it towards the arts, but he would have none of that. He was concerned about things happening the right way, and he trusted you to carry on your mission." - Tom, James friend We are so thankful to James and his dedication to dismantling the root causes of poverty. His story reminds us that each of us has the power to make a positive impact, one act of kindness at a time. Visit https://okt.to/sMdD0c to read his full story!
