This #WomenInMedicineMonth, we're celebrating the outstanding patient care our team members provide. Jenica Garnett is a patient transporter for UVA Health Prince William Medical Center Transport Services. She's also a Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) Speak Up for Safety Award recipient — the first UVA Health team member in Northern Virginia to receive this statewide recognition. Jenica was nominated for quickly recognizing a patient’s condition while transporting them in a wheelchair to go home and taking decisive steps to alert a nurse. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3TBWy01

Congratulations to Jeremy Judd on receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses from The DAISY Foundation! Jeremy was nominated by a patient's family member for his compassionate care, sensitivity, and empathy. Jeremy answered all questions thoughtfully and thoroughly. "His full trust in his colleagues in all departments of the hospital was very encouraging to see, and I felt completely reassured that she would be in good hands," the patient's daughter shared. Thank you, Jeremy for your dedication in putting the patients and their families first in all you do.

We're highlighting women making an impact at UVA Health during #WomenInMedicineMonth. Meet Kate Edwards, BSN (pictured second from the left). Kate is a registered nurse in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) at UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center. She won a DAISY Award for her extraordinary compassion and going above and beyond for her patients. Kate was also the recipient of the 2022 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award presented by the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses - ASPAN.

Congratulations to Shannon Day, RN, on receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses from The DAISY Foundation! Shannon was nominated by colleague Alicia Walker for her extraordinary work in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The daughter and primary caretaker of a patient was reviewing care instructions bedside when she learned that her father had been taken to the ER. The daughter was very overwhelmed trying to juggle the care of both parents. Shannon jumped into action without hesitation and offered to accompany her to the ER and help prepare the father for discharge. "The daughter was so grateful, and you could visibly see the stress leave her face. This fast thinking, willingness to help, and simple act of kindness, saved the daughter from having to make multiple trips and worrying about organizing care for both parents," says Alicia. Thank you, Shannon for your dedication to providing exceptional care!
