News and Updates from the Cyber-Physical Systems Link Lab at the University of Virginia
关于我们
UVA Engineering's Link Lab is a 17,000-square-foot cyber-physical systems research incubator. Link Lab offers a co-located space where close to 46 affiliated faculty members and 280+ graduate students are working together to create and disseminate the cyber technologies that will shape society. Research is arranged in three overlapping areas: autonomous systems, smart and connected health, and smart cities. UVA Engineering's Link Lab has attracted $95+ million in sponsored research funding since September 2016. In smart and connected health, Link Lab is working with the UVA School of Medicine and School of Nursing to advance patient care through technology. For smart cities, Link Lab is engaging communities such as Hampton Roads, Va., to investigate critical systems such as water management, transportation, energy and smart services. Link Lab is also interfacing with citizen advocacies like Smart Cville that promote technology for making cities better places to live.

?? Welcome to UVA Link Lab, Dr. Rider Foley! We’re excited to welcome Associate Professor Rider Foley from the Engineering & Society Department to the Link Lab! ?? Dr. Foley’s research has explored innovation networks, regulatory policies, and ethical issues in cyber-physical systems. Now, he is focusing on responsible innovation in biomedical engineering and smart health, comparing innovation in the U.S. and Taiwan. ??? Dr. Foley shares his vision for joining Link Lab: "In the past, my research has explored innovation networks, regulatory policies, and ethical issues that inform the design of cyber-physical systems. Currently, I am working to explore responsible innovation in the biomedical engineering field and smart health. The research will explore the similarities and differences between innovation in the US and Taiwanese context. I hope to partner with researchers in the Link Lab as this work evolves in the coming months to better understand how partnerships are formed and maintained. The Link Lab is an exciting locus of academic-industry partnerships that extend into healthcare practice. I hope that I could offer my expertise to the Link Lab community and support the growth of the research community." We look forward to seeing Dr. Foley’s contributions to the Link Lab community and beyond! Welcome aboard! ?? #UVALinkLab #Innovation #SmartHealth #BiomedicalEngineering UVA Engineering University of Virginia

????? #UVALinkLab at AGU24! ????? Link Lab graduate student Savannah Lynn, conducting research under Prof. Jonathan Goodall, recently presented at the 2024 American Geophysical Union (AGU) conference, exploring how urban trees can enhance stormwater management in Norfolk, VA. ??? "Urban flooding is a growing challenge, but trees may be part of the solution. By integrating i-Tree data into SWMM, we're redefining how cities model stormwater—treating trees as active LID features that manage water, not just passive landscape elements." Her presentation, "Integrating Urban Trees into a SWMM Continuous Hydrologic Model," showcased a process-based approach to better predict and mitigate urban flooding. ???? #AGU24 #StormwaterManagement #UrbanResilience #SmartCities #UVAEngineering #Sustainability UVA Engineering UVA Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering University of Virginia

?? Exciting feature alert! Link Lab faculty member Qing (Cindy) Chang was recently featured in Tech Briefs for her team’s groundbreaking work on optimizing manufacturing systems using Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL). Their AI-driven tool enhances efficiency by providing deeper insights into multi-stage processes. ??? “We didn’t want to simply solve the problem — we wanted to know how and why, what are the underlying reasons. Based on our experience, we built a mathematic model that gives us a deeper understanding of the overall plant-floor multi-stage processes.” – Prof. Chang Read more about their work here: https://lnkd.in/gRQxmwJh #AI #Manufacturing #ReinforcementLearning #UVaEngineering #LinkLab UVA Engineering University of Virginia
