Our next #trialtotable event is just 2 weeks away and we have an amazing line up of chefs who will be each offering 2 dishes (at least one vegetarian each). It's our first time at Ivory Road, which is a beautiful event space in Arden, NC. These events are a celebration of local food, experimental crops and varieties. Don't miss out. Invite your friends. Share widely! Grab a ticket via the link in our bio. It was an honor to join UJAMAA SEEDS and The Utopian Seed Project on their oral history visits around WNC! I had the honor of introducing folks to Highlander Research and Education Center and we visited APPALACHIAN INSTITUTE FOR MOUNTAIN STUDIES INC with Jim Veteto and Cherokee elder and seed guardian Ms. Amy Walker to work with beautiful ancestral corn. Looking forward to the important relationships and ongoing oral histories of this project!
This year we've been growing Ultracross okra - an open-pollinated hybrid created by The Utopian Seed Project. It's the combination of more than 100 varietals of okra, selected specifically for adaptability and resiliency in the face of a changing climate. It's a fascinating project - you can read more here: https://lnkd.in/gtRjTR2i Learn more about it on August 14th - the USP's executive director, Chris Smith, will be at the Container Barn to share the story of Ultracross, and present updates about Ultracross 2.0! To put these okra pods to the test, Adé Carrena from Dounou Cuisine will be preparing some of the Ultracross okra from our garden, highlighting the variability within the harvest to the advantage of her creative expression (and our taste buds).
