  • On Friday, November 8, 2024, the Neff College of Business and Innovation hosted the latest installment of its Research Seminar Series, featuring two insightful presentations that explored the intersection of business strategy, international conflict and peacebuilding. The first presentation, led by Dr. Marcelo J Alvarado-Vargas of The University of Toledo, examined how U.S. firms responded strategically to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Titled "Market and Non-Market Conditions to Exit an Aggressor Country in Times of Conflict: A Fuzzy-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis Approach," the research delved into the complex combination of factors influencing firms' decisions to either fully exit, reduce operations, partially divest, or continue business in an aggressor nation. This timely study offered valuable insights into the dynamics of corporate strategy during geopolitical crises. The second presentation, delivered by Dr. Santiago Sosa from EAFIT University in Colombia, focused on the transformative potential of entrepreneurship in post-conflict societies. His work, titled "The Business of Building Peace," explored how entrepreneurial activity supports the societal reintegration of former militia combatants in conflict-affected regions of Colombia. Dr. Sosa-Nore?a emphasized the critical role of government policies and regulations in fostering economic growth and building sustainable peace through business innovation in these areas. This seminar series continues to highlight the global relevance of business research, shedding light on the ways corporate strategies and entrepreneurship contribute to addressing societal challenges and fostering international understanding.

  • As a freshman at The University of Toledo’s Neff College of Business and Innovation, Mohammad Almasri took the initiative to pursue an internship early in his college journey. He attended a job fair hosted by the college, where he connected with Double A Solutions and eventually secured a summer position as a Sales Specialist. Additionally, his participation in the college’s Internal Sales Competition through the Edward H. Schmidt School of Professional Sales further strengthened his connection with the company, honing his skills and expanding his network with other potential employers. Despite having only just begun his coursework, Mohammad excelled in his internship, managing responsibilities like setting appointments, handling customer inquiries and closing sales—all while building essential organizational and time management skills. The Neff College’s robust career services, from competitions to networking events, helped him seize this opportunity, and he now encourages other students to make the most of these resources from the start. ?? https://lnkd.in/g3rQ4wRd
