关于我们
The highly-ranked UTMB School of Nursing is part of a University of Texas academic-medical institution with more than 13,800 employees, including 970 faculty members. UTMB SON offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in both our Traditional Program (four consecutive semesters) and the two-semester RN-BSN Program designed for nurses already prepared at the Associate degree level. Our graduates average a 99 percent pass rate on the RN licensing exam, and more than 90 percent of our BSN students secure jobs in nursing in the state of Texas upon graduation. Our online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree program consists of seven different specialty tracks for students wanting to advance their careers. We also offer two doctoral degrees that prepare graduates to improve patient care, influence healthcare policy and advance knowledge through translational research: the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (DNP) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD). Where do our nursing graduates work? Everywhere. We are proud to have more than 14,000 alumni all over the U.S. and abroad who play an active role our school’s success. For more than 130 years, UTMB SON has given its students the very best opportunity to become the very best nursing professionals they can be. Yes, UTMB SON is proud to claim the distinction of being the first nursing school in Texas and the first in the U.S. west of the Mississippi, but we are equally proud that we have always focused on the future. An outstanding nursing education is the foundation for another generation of outstanding nursing professionals who never miss an opportunity to grow professionally, master new technologies, and give patients hope.

Welcome, #UTMBSONFeatureFriday! This week, we asked students about their experiences at UTMB School of Nursing and skills they have developed while in their program that they believe is essential for a nurse. Madylan Shaw is a fourth-semester BSN Traditional student. “My favorite aspect of being a part of the UTMB SON community has been the support from the preceptors we shadow, our faculty members, and other staff within the UTMB Health System. The support is incredible and makes me proud to be a UTMB School of Nursing student,” said Madylan. “One skill I have developed while in this program has been advocacy. I have gained so much confidence in myself and in my practice, which has allowed me to advocate for my patients in the clinical setting multiple times. Advocacy is a nursing characteristic that is essential, and it helps ensure your patients are treated with the highest quality care and respect.” Thank you, Madylan. Congratulations and good luck in your final semester!

The UTMB School of Nursing was honored to host the White Coat Ceremony for the Fall 2024 BSN Traditional cohort on Monday. In an auditorium filled with family, friends, UTMB leadership, faculty, staff, and alumni, we celebrated as over 130 students marked the beginning of their nursing school journey. Amy Bradley, SON alumna (class of ’88), gave the keynote address. “Healing others is our calling. And healing lies as much in our caring as in our brilliant skills,” said Bradley. “In our connection to the patient and their family. In our empathy. It is not only our duty as nurses, but if we let it, it will be the greatest honor and reward of our nursing careers.” Welcome and congratulations, students!
