ICYMI: Michigan’s Consumers Energy became the fourth utility to receive U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funding to deploy our distributed AI platform, Karman. Ryan Jackson, who leads corporate strategy and strategic projects at Consumers Energy, explained that deploying Karman is "really about the timeliness of the data, the accuracy of the data and the location of the data, so that we can match local interventions with local grid needs.” Consumers will use Karman to get its first managed EV charging program off the ground. Bringing AI to the edge to transform the way industries operate
关于我们
Utilidata is an AI-powered technology company that is working with NVIDIA to create the next generation of AI-embedded infrastructure, starting with the electric grid. Karman, our distributed AI platform, operates on our custom NVIDIA module, makes data available for accelerated computing at the edge, and trains AI models locally. Karman is embedded in grid devices - starting with smart meters - to transform the way utility companies operate. As the electric grid becomes more complex with the rapid increase of electric vehicles, distributed solar, batteries, heat pumps and extreme weather, utilities need real-time visibility of grid conditions and dynamic, software-defined infrastructure. Karman provides real-time visibility and AI at the grid edge so utilities can better utilize customer energy resources, reduce power outages, and enable quicker storm recovery. We are a mission-driven, collaborative, and adaptive team working to do what’s right, even when it’s hard. With backgrounds in electric engineering, power systems engineering, software engineering, data science, and energy policy, we bring a unique perspective on the solutions the energy industry needs. We are committed to ensuring a diverse, inclusive, and flexible workplace where employees are provided mentorship and growth opportunities and are empowered to solve problems as part of a collaborative team.

?? BIG news!??? The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded?Consumers Energy with a $20M grant to deploy our Karman platform in nearly 20k electric meters! DOE's continued investment in AI solutions is critical to creating a cleaner, more reliable grid and Consumers Energy is leading the way. This project, matched by $20M from Consumers, will focus on EV integration and managed charging programs enabled by distributed AI at the grid edge. Through this project, Utilidata and Consumers are partnering with the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, GM Energy, and EPRI - forging collaboration between utilities, research organizations, and the auto/EV industry to tackle the challenge of vehicle-grid integration. Congratulations to Consumers Energy! https://lnkd.in/dX-NNUpy

While at?NVIDIA this week, our CTO,?Marissa Hummon,?caught up with NVIDIA CEO?Jensen Huang on the importance of distributed AI, like our Karman platform, to make the grid cleaner and more efficient. To hear more of Jensen's perspective on this topic (with a shout-out to Utilidata!), watch his recent talk with the Bipartisan Policy Center: https://lnkd.in/e6BKmuhc?

We’re excited to formally welcome former NVIDIA executive Gary Hicok to our team?as an advisor. Gary recently retired from NVIDIA as the senior vice president of Automotive Hardware and System where he oversaw the NVIDIA DRIVE platforms used to develop self-driving vehicles. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president of NVIDIA’s core logic business unit and the mobile business unit. During his 25 years with NVIDIA, Gary helped pioneer new technology and grow the company’s edge computing platforms. We’re thrilled he’s chosen to share his time, expertise, and counsel with us as we bring a transformative edge AI platform to market.

As the first generation of smart meters nears the end of its lifecycle, there’s an urgent need to upgrade to systems capable of supporting AI. "Utilities are facing critical investment decisions as they respond to electricity demand increases, at the very same time that AI is transforming industries across the world. Utilities need to invest in technologies that will provide value for the next two decades, particularly at the grid edge where things are most dynamic." That's why we've combined our expertise with NVIDIA, Hubbell Incorporated, & Deloitte to ensure the grid is ready to meet the industry's rapidly changing needs.
