I am very grateful to be able to say I attended the 14th Annual GCC Translational Pain Research Conference this week and was able to present my first ever poster! This, of course, would not have been possible without the incredible guidance of Dr. Stephanie Shiers, along with the support of Dr. Ted Price and the Center for Advanced Pain Studies. Getting to hear from a variety of pain researchers has broadened my perspective, and I am excited as always to learn more. ?? We are thrilled to announce that Diana Tavares Ferreira, PhD, has been awarded a two-year, $130,000 grant from the Merkin Peripheral Neuropathy and Nerve Regeneration Center at Johns Hopkins. It's been rough ya'll, but excited to share a new preprint from the lab that discovered skin fibroblasts are actively involved in acute and long-term pain states and not just innocent bystanders. We were revealed this crucial circuitry using a preclinical genetic mouse model (transgenic) and through support from the NIH. The point of this all is to initiate the development of new therapeutics for patients (YOU) and create lines of research that take these circuits into consideration for long-term pain treatments. The work was lead by Melissa Lenert, Nilesh M. Agalave, Emily Debner with collaborators near and far: Erica Sanchez, PhD, Ted Price, Frank Rice, and more.
