Today, October 16th, 2024, I had the privilege of spending the day with the U.S. Secret Service at their Dallas office. It was an unforgettable experience, allowing me to see firsthand the daily life of a special agent. These are the men and women behind the curtain, dedicated to protecting the President and dignitaries. I was amazed to witness some of the most classified infrastructure in action, including the iconic Secret Service vehicle used in presidential motorcades. Their mission goes beyond protection; they tackle issues like counterfeit currency, cryptocurrency misuse, child exploitation, and various national security threats. A heartfelt thank you to Special Agent in Charge Craig Wolf, DSAIC Chris Foley, and Christopher Baron for their hospitality and to one of the most hardworking team Yuliia Sobko & Maheen Z. Merchant at the UT Dallas - University Career Center who creates such outstanding opportunities for students. Agents gave an insightful tour of their cyber security facility, displayed some confidential tools in action and labs where they perform forensics on devices seized from cartels and criminals. It was truly a day well spent, leaving me inspired by the dedication of those who serve the nation. If you’re considering a career with the Secret Service, keep in mind the acceptance ratio is 103:1. We at the UTD University Career Center are thankful to the U.S. Secret Service for hosting us on a Comet Trek! Our students had a unique opportunity to tour the office, explore a digital evidence forensic lab, and discover the wide range of careers the agency offers. In addition to learning about protective services, we also gained valuable insights into their investigative work, including efforts to tackle money laundering, counterfeiting, and more. A standout moment was seeing one of the armored vehicles used to transport protectees! Thank you to the U.S. Secret Service team for your time and warm welcome. It was an unforgettable experience for our students!
