This accomplishment is a testament to SITLA’s unwavering commitment to its mission of managing trust lands for the benefit of Utah’s public education and other beneficiaries. As someone who works closely with organizations focused on creating value through the responsible management of natural resources, I am inspired by SITLA’s strategic approach and dedication. Their work not only supports the present but ensures opportunities for future generations. Congratulations to SITLA from EnergyNet, Indigo Energy Advisors, Government Resources and the entire Efficient Markets Team, on this remarkable achievement and for demonstrating the powerful impact of sound management and visionary leadership.

The growing hydrogen market is expected to play an important role in the future of lower carbon energy. Our CEO Mike Wirth recently toured the Advanced Clean Energy Storage (ACES) project with our VP of hydrogen, Austin Knight. The project plans to convert renewable energy into dispatchable hydrogen. What happens when a small mineral exploration company drills a ton of core, places it in a storage shed in small town Utah, but then stops paying their storage fees? Instead of calling the TV show "Storage Wars", the storage company thankfully called the Utah Geological Survey! Before this material went to the local landfill, UGS geologists were able to rescue nearly 2500 ft of core. These cores were collected to evaluate the Blawn Mountain Alunite [KAl3(SO4)2(OH)6] deposit in the west desert of Utah. Alunite is an important potential source of aluminum and potash (K2SO4). Alunite is also commonly encountered as an alteration mineral in high sulfidation epithermal gold deposits. This material will be put to immediate use since UGS coincidentally just received a USGS EarthMRI grant to study Alunite resources in western Utah.
