Utah Valley University’s Open Source Intelligence Center (OSIC), part of the Intermountain Intelligence, Industry, and Security Consortium (I3SC) hosted a successful forum on Analytics Advancements: City, State, and National Security through Digital Intelligence. The event brought together several local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to discuss the latest advancements in analytics, training opportunities, and how OSIC student interns could serve as invaluable resources to enhance their digital analysis capabilities. Thank you Summit County Utah Sherrif’s Department, Statewide Information & Analysis Center (SIAC), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Salt Lake City office for sharing your expertise, knowledge and supporting the growth and importance of digital intelligence. Last week I had the honor of attending and presenting at the 2024 JED Campus Utah Cohort Convening. This convening was a chance to celebrate all 16 Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) institutions progress over their last 4 years in the JED Campus program and plan for the future of their work. While I only had the pleasure of serving as the Campus Advisor for Southwest Technical College, I got to witness first-hand the passion that Utah’s higher education professionals have for student mental health and suicide prevention. The institutions transformed their campus infrastructure to support student mental health across the spectrum from early prevention to effectively managing crises. As a result, more students have a positive view of campus mental health culture and knowledge of the resources in place to support their emotional wellbeing. USHE’s participation in JED Campus serves as an inspiration for the possibility of widescale impact on the lives of young people when a state system can align under the shared goals of protecting emotional health and preventing suicide.?Thank you to Aisha Folkes for leading and coordinating this event, Michael King and Diana Cusumano Gerring LMHC, NCC, RYT for hosting, and Shannon Rose, Nicole Mullis, LPC, NCC, Kurt Michael, Ph.D. and Erlinda Delacruz for sharing their expertise through informative breakout sessions.
