Congratulations to Kristina Schiffman, a STEM and robotics mentor. Kristina was just recognized on Utah Business' 20 under 20 list as part of the next generation of business leaders. Kristina developed UV Sense, a device that can protect against skin cancer. She is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration at the University of Utah. You can take part in the next Utah Underwater Robotics competition! BYU, in collaboration with companies?like US Synthetic, hosts one of the largest underwater?robotics competitions in the U.S. every March, and it's free! The EngineerGirl Writing Contest from?the National Academy of Engineering is open! The theme this year is "Innovating Smarter." Students are asked to write a piece describing a common object they would make "smart" and tell us what it would do, how it would help people, and what could go wrong. When it comes to STEM and the arts, some Utah schools are coming up with new ways to teach both disciplines. Staff at Gearld Wright Elementary in West Valley City say since becoming a Platinum STEM school, they've noticed positive changes in their students.
