Strong public transportation is essential for supporting our state’s growing population. Today, President Adams spoke at the groundbreaking of Stadler US’s expansion into a 220,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City as part of a celebration of their partnership with Utah Transit Authority to build 80 new modern TRAX vehicles right here in Utah. With TRAX ridership increasing 18% since last year, the addition of state-of-the-art TRAX vehicles will support our rapidly growing communities, create new jobs and bring innovative light rail technology to North America. #utpol #utleg

Yesterday, we celebrated Compass Minerals’ pledge to donate 200,000 acre-feet of water rights annually, equivalent to the combined volume of Causey, Echo, Pineview, Lost Creek and Rockpoint reservoirs. Additionally, the company will return 65,000 acres of leased land around the Great Salt Lake to the state. This agreement, made possible by H.B. 453 Great Salt Lake Revisions passed during the last session, marks a significant milestone in tackling our state’s water challenges and maintaining our high quality of life. Together, through innovation and collaboration, we will save the Great Salt Lake and secure a bright future for all Utahns.?? #utpol #utleg

Students nowadays face a myriad of distractions, but perhaps none are as pervasive as cellphones in classrooms. Not only can these devices disrupt learning, but the addictive use of social media has also been linked to a notable increase in mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. That’s why today, Sen. Fillmore, Rep. Welton and The Policy Project announced they are teaming up to run a bill during the 2025 General Session that would prohibit students from using cellphones during school hours unless a school district opts to allow their use. By taking this step, we can help foster a more focused learning environment and tackle some of the mental health challenges harming today’s youth. With seven distance runners from our state joining Team USA’s talented lineup in Paris this summer, Utah is making a big statement on the international stage at the 2024 Olympics. Sen. McKell recently met with former Olympian Jared Ward at the runners’ training session to discuss what sets these athletes apart. As the Senate Chair of Utah’s Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Coordination Committee, Sen. McKell has been working closely with Jared to promote Utah’s Run Elite Program (REP), providing a strong support system for Utah’s runners.
