It’s #TradeTeamTuesday – A delegation of Chinese aquaculture and feed mill professionals enjoyed a seven-day study of U.S. soybean farms and aquaculture facilities, providing them with firsthand exposure to advanced U.S. agricultural practices and technologies. The group toured four leading aquaculture facilities utilizing recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) technology: LocalCoho, Cornell University Aquaculture Laboratory, IMET - Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology and The Conservation Fund Freshwater Institute. The collaboration model presented by these RAS facilities also opened avenues for future partnerships, which can further enhance the capabilities of Chinese aquaculture firms and help elevate overall industry standards. At Du Mond Farms in New York and United Soybean Board Director John Harrell’s farm in Pennsylvania, the team learned about sustainable farming techniques, including crop rotation and no-till farming, and how they enhance soil health and production efficiency. This knowledge differentiates U.S. Soy for Chinese stakeholders, emphasizing sustainable production methods. Discussions on the use of advanced machinery and automation highlighted the technological edge of U.S. soybean farms, reinforcing the unique value proposition of U.S. Soy products. The trip facilitated knowledge transfer, fostered relationships and promoted a deeper understanding of sustainable U.S. Soy within the Chinese aquaculture industry. This sets the stage for increased adoption of U.S. Soy products and continued collaboration in advancing sustainable aquaculture practices. The collaboration was part of a special flight commemorating the United Nations’ “International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer” and emphasized Vietnam Airline’s dedication to environmentally responsible practices and innovative aviation solutions. It’s #TradeTeamTuesday – Two teams traveled from China for a firsthand look at the U.S. Soy supply chain. Both teams visited Soy Connext to gain a better understanding of U.S. Soy benefits, as well as economic and sustainable values, and build bridges between Chinese soy buyers and U.S. Soy exporters. The China Commodity Trade Team visited the Pro Farmer Crop Tour Readout in person for the first time, where these major soybean buyers learned about key crop status information to help reduce their purchasing cost and risk. They engaged in lively discussions about U.S. Soy sustainable production practices during visits to the Minnesota farms of Jeff Ignaszewski and Matt Purfeerst, Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Director, and Stephanie Cook, Treasurer, North Dakota Soybean Growers Association. Tours of Cargill headquarters; CHS Inc. headquarters; Minnesota Department of Agriculture; CHS river terminal in Savage, Minnesota; and Minn-Kota Ag Products in Mooreton, North Dakota, enriched the China buyers’ understanding of sustainability, logistics, reliability and animal nutrition advantages of U.S. Soy. With a combined daily food-grade soybean consumption of over 120 metric tons, the China Soy Foods Trade Team included second generation soy foods manufacturers who hold a broader vision, stronger pursuit of soy foods quality and greater emphasis on sustainability. At David Black’s Ohio farm, the team learned about the Ohio Soybean Council/Ohio Soybean Association Council Director’s crop rotation to reduce fertilizer inputs as a key sustainable production practice. Stops at Scoular Covington, McHale Soybean Breeding Labs, The Ohio State University and Bluegrass Farm of Ohio brought even deeper insights into the U.S. Soy supply chain. #USSoy Farm Journal
