For a second time, Nick Scandone and Maureen McKinnon PLY are up as finalists for the Team USA Hall of Fame and are joined this year by Francis “Conn” Findlay! ???? Voting is open March 25 through April 14 and the public is invited to vote once a day at TeamUSA.com/HOF. Nick (1966-2009) and Maureen were finalists for the Hall of Fame in 2022 for their Gold medal in the Beijing 2008 Paralympics and are in the running again for the Class of 2025! Nick is the only Paralympic sailor to win the Rolex Yachtsman of the Year award in 2005 for his win in the 2.4 Meter Open Worlds, and when his ALS limited his physical ability even further, he teamed up with Maureen in the SKUD-18. Maureen went on to sail the Rio 2016 Paralympics and is the first woman to both represent the U.S. and win Gold in Para Sailing. The pair currently holds the only Gold medal for the USA on the winningest Paralympic sailing team in history. Findlay (1930-2021) was a rare multi-sport Olympian, earning two Gold and one Bronze medal in rowing and one Bronze in sailing. From The Sailing Museum & National Sailing Hall of Fame: During the last race of the Montreal 1976 Olympics, Dennis Conner asked Findlay if they should take a flyer with the opportunity to gain a Silver medal but risk losing the Bronze if they failed. Conn, from the trapeze wire and already with three rowing medals to his name, answered “Well Dennis, I’ve got my medals.” Conner chose to cover the competition and take the Bronze.

Live on ussailing.org - Five Tips to Help You Build Olympic-Quality Leadership Habits, from our sit down with Lara Dallman Weiss OLY about the work she’s doing with ILO Group ? Lara’s efforts aim to empower more women to take leadership roles and thrive there. It’s vital work, as women make up 76% of the teaching workforce but hold less than 30% of superintendent positions. “The skills that Olympians cultivate — visualizing success, managing setbacks, and leading under pressure, are exactly what educational leaders need to sustain long-term success,” says Dr. Julia Rafal-Baer, CEO of ILO. ?? Nominations are due THIS Wednesday for the 2025-2028 Sailor Athlete Council ?? Self nominate here: https://lnkd.in/eUhsJKvh US Sailing’s Sailor Athlete Council (SAC) maintains an avenue for American sailor athletes to voice their opinions, providing a forum and opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the future and direction of our sport. While much of the representation at US Sailing is organized around a class, a Regional Sailing Association, or a racing discipline (such as team or match racing), the SAC is the only vehicle for sailors to be heard as individuals rather than as members of an organization. The elected members of SAC are your representatives at US Sailing.

Happy International Women’s Day ?? Grateful for the women on our Team and past Teams and the waves they continue to make no matter what boat they step into. “We’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t. People are always waiting for women to fail. But then, do they expect us to get back up and try again? I’m not sure. Men mess up, and they’re given another shot, but when a woman does, it’s like, ‘Oh, we knew she wasn’t good enough.’ Changing that narrative is essential.” - Anna Weis, Tokyo 2020 Olympian & USA SailGP Grinder / Jib Trimmer Written by Maeve Galea for Marie Claire Australia (read the full article on Marie Claire Australia or reposted to US Sailing below) #internationalwomensday #annaweis #tommyhilfiger

Lara Dallman Weiss OLY '20 '24, Stephanie Roble, OLY '20 '24, and ODP Athlete Lillian Myers hit the road for the Dolphins Cancer Challenge on February 22, three of 7,000 participants raising money for cancer research ?? Way to go, team!!
Still so inspired from the Dolphins Cancer Challenge last weekend! This was year 15, my first with the DCC and my first century, and there were over 7,000 participants who showed up for different distances. The total raised this year was $14 million for cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center The weather was stunning and community electric! Thank you to Mack Cycle and Fitness for hooking me up with a sweet ride and coach Andrew Santelli for designing my training program Major thanks to everyone who donated to my page, came out to cheer us on, and sent me encouraging texts along the ride!! I’m so proud of my parents for fighting their fight and doing it with courage and grace, it was meaningful to be able to honor them in the way they met: on a 150 mile ride back in 1988. One last thank you to each person I drafted behind, it got a bit windy at times!

Anyone who knows Ian will easily agree that this honor is no surprise. Please join us in congratulating US Sailing Team athlete Ian MacDiarmid as the newest recipient of the Kevin Burnham award. MacDiarmid?is recognized for his achievement in the Men’s Olympic Skiff and for best exemplifying Kevin’s spirit and characteristics: passion, perseverance, persistence, sportsmanship on and off the water, love of the sport and love of his competitors. Beyond his accomplishments in the 49er, Ian has dedicated his life to representing the United States and has upheld a contagious spirit and sportsmanship no matter what boat he steps into. MacDiarmid was a member of the US Opti National Team and was selected to represent the US in seven international championships by the age of 13, found great success in the 29er, and climbed speed brackets into Foiling Phantoms, A-Cats, the RedBull Foiling Generation, and in the AC40 for the first ever Youth America’s Cup with?American Magic. Last year, MacDiarmid just narrowly missed Team USA for Paris 2024 by three points to Barrows and Henken, but was a prominent supporter of the team-wide effort to prepare the USA 49er for peak performance in Marseille. Ian’s name will appear on a perpetual plaque displayed beside the Olympic Torch that Kevin carried in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. ???Allison Chenard & Daniel Forster
