America's Innovation Agency

关于我们

For over 200 years, the basic role of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has remained the same: to promote the progress of science and the useful arts by securing for limited times to inventors the exclusive right to their respective discoveries (Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution). Under this system of protection, American industry has flourished. New products have been invented, new uses for old ones discovered, and employment opportunities created for millions of Americans. The strength and vitality of the U.S. economy depends directly on effective mechanisms that protect new ideas and investments in innovation and creativity. The continued demand for patents and trademarks underscores the ingenuity of American inventors and entrepreneurs. The USPTO is at the cutting edge of the Nation’s technological progress and achievement. The USPTO is a federal agency in the Department of Commerce. The USPTO occupies several interconnected buildings in Alexandria, Virginia. The office employs more than 14,000 people -- including engineers, scientists, attorneys, analysts, computer specialists -- all dedicated to protecting U.S. intellectual property rights. At the USPTO, the talents of all our colleagues enrich our vibrant workplace, and we celebrate and value each one.

?? Attention trademark applicants: This summer, we launched the beta version of our brand new Trademark Center. For six months, we’ve offered the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) and Trademark Center initial applications in parallel, and used your valuable feedback to refine the new application. On Jan. 18, we will retire the TEAS initial application forms. Until then, you have the option to file your new application in either Trademark Center or TEAS. The cost to file remains the same in both systems. Over the next few years, we’ll gradually transition all trademark forms from TEAS and TEAS International (TEASi) to Trademark Center. Eventually, Trademark Center will become the single place for you to do business with the Trademarks organization. Learn more and register for an upcoming training webinar: https://lnkd.in/eJivbstc

Big news for design rights: The international community has agreed on a new Riyadh Design Law Treaty that supports a more straight-forward, faster, and less expensive process to pursue global protection for industrial designs, changes that are especially meaningful for independent designers and new and small businesses. The USPTO congratulates our fellow World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO member states for rising to the moment, and through consensus-based decision making, building a stronger global IP system. A special thank you to USPTO and U.S. Department of State members including Sharon Israel, David Gerk, Gordon Klancnik, Keith Mullervy, Marina Lamm, Alex Hamilton, Rasha Abdel Magid, and Aisha Salem-Howey, who represented American designer and business interests during the two weeks of final negotiations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
