During the Lifesavers 2025 Conference on Roadway Safety in Long Beach, CA, Robyn Robertson, Jennifer Smith, Michelle May & Ryan Pietzsch participated in the 'Looking Back & Ahead with the National Distracted Driving Coalition (USNDDC)' panel. Robyn Robertson, NDDC Chair and Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) President & CEO, presented an overview of the work undertaken by the Coalition & the results of the Youth Distracted Driving Survey: ?? Approximately 1,200 teens aged 14-19 from at least 26 states completed the survey. ?? 23 questions about use of electronic devices while driving, frequency of use, types of activities engaged in, and motivations. ??? Thank you to the International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Chief magazine for publishing, Curbing the Threat of Distracted Driving https://lnkd.in/dGX_qMfy Distracted driving isn’t just a policing problem, it’s a road safety challenge requiring a coordinated, consistent strategy across multiple sectors. Law enforcement plays a critical role but can’t solve it alone. ? A broader approach is needed using all available tools for behaviour change. These range from public awareness and workplace safety training and policies to automated enforcement and better data use. These efforts help police prioritize enforcement, ensuring distraction is addressed as seriously as impaired driving and speeding. ? This isn’t about shifting responsibility but about strengthening our collective impact. Through partnerships and shared strategies, we can improve enforcement, reshape public perceptions, and drive lasting change.
