关于我们
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation's record keeper. Of all documents and materials created in the course of business conducted by the United States Federal government, only 1%-3% are so important for legal or historical reasons that they are kept by us forever. Those valuable records are preserved and are available to you, whether you want to see if they contain clues about your family’s history, need to prove a veteran’s military service, or are researching an historical topic that interests you.

It’s time for the third series in our rotating exhibition, #ArchivesRoadToRevolution. Road to Revolution features a selection of records that document major milestones in the journey from colonial resistance to American independence. This selection, "Native Americans and the American Revolution," focuses on the nation’s Indigenous people. The Stockbridge Indians were a mixed community of Mohican, Housatonic, and Wappinger people from Stockbridge, Massachusetts. They united with American colonists in the hope it would protect their lands and sovereignty. In 1778, a company of Stockbridge Indians were ambushed by British forces in Kingsbridge, NY. The skirmish, which killed as many as 40 Native American soldiers, devastated the Stockbridge community.
