Cody Abadie grew up in Smithdale, MS and attended high school at West Lincoln Attendance Center where he graduated in 2007. In that same year he enlisted as an Aviation Ordnanceman in the United States Navy and served five years on board the USS. John C. Stennis. He was Vice President and President of Student Veterans of America (SVA) while attending school at USM. He was also a VA Work-Study from 2014-2016 and graduated Southern Miss in 2016 with a bachelors in Anthropology and a minor in History.?He was a teacher for the Mississippi Youth Challenge academy from 2022-2024 where he worked closely with at risk youth in a quasi-military environment. He now works as the Veterans Outreach Coordinator and telling people about Southern Miss and the Center for Military Veterans, Service Members, and Families. What Cody enjoys most about his job: "My favorite part about my job is getting to work with Military Affiliated Students and help you succeed in college and life. I really enjoy it. Please join us for a campus wide Blood Drive sponsored by the American Red Cross on January 30, 2025 from Noon to 4:00 PM in the parking lot of the Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families at 200 North 35th Avenue on the western edge of campus. The need is great and the supply is very low. As young adults, this is one way you can save a life by simply relaxing for a few minutes and donating blood. We are hoping for a huge turnout.

Happy Birthday, Space Force! Established on December 20th, 2019, the Space Force was the first new branch of the armed services to be created in 73 years. It was created when the National Defense Authorization Act was signed into law. The establishment of the USSF was motivated by the recognition that space is a critical asset for national security, especially with the growing competition from our peers. #thecenterformilitaryveteransservicemembersandfamilies #southernmississippi #SMTTT #southernmissgoldeneagle

Today we celebrate Anthony's graduation from the University?of Southern Mississippi, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice while serving in the Marine Corps and being one of our wonderful work-studies here at the VA Center! #thecenterformilitaryveteransservicemembersandfamilies #southernmississippi #SMTTT #southernmissgoldeneagle

We're honored to share Steven Kincaid's story in honor of Veterans Day. As a student-veteran, Steven receives support from the Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families at The University of Southern Mississippi. Established a decade ago at, the Center serves as a place where student-veterans, military service members and their families can find academic, professional and social support while pursuing educational opportunities. Steven stated, "It's nice to have that little blanket of people who have been through the things I have been through, who have advice and insight.
