A huge thank you to our outstanding Marine Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) teammates—Catalina Delgado, Colleen Randolph, and Bridget Greene—for organizing an incredible day of learning for our students! Their efforts helped us gain valuable insights into the critical role of Congress in national security. We are especially grateful to Representative Jimmy Panetta and Representative Seth Moulton for sharing their experiences and expertise as members of Congress. As veterans and members of Congress, their unique perspectives provided valuable insights and a deeper understanding of how committees such as Armed Services support and work with the Department of Defense. A special thanks as well to Brian G., Charles "Chaz" Morrison, and John Keast for their deep dive into the vital work of Professional Staff Members on key committees. #Leadership #NationalSecurity #Congress #ProfessionalDevelopment Marine Corps University United States Marine Corps

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Colonel Masaka of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, currently serving as Attaché in Washington, D.C., and himself a graduate of Marine Corps University. His insightful and thought-provoking lecture provided our students with a profound understanding of the critical importance of the U.S.-Japan security alliance. Drawing on his expertise and shared connection as an alumnus, Colonel Masaka highlighted the alliance's indispensable role in promoting stability and security throughout the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. We are honored to have hosted him and deeply appreciate the lasting impact of his engagement with our institution. United States Marine Corps US Forces Japan

Wargame in Session: Where Strategy Meets Competition Fresh off their rigorous Fall Semester Oral Boards, MCWAR students are diving into a dynamic global strategy wargame, expertly facilitated by our own Matthew Jones and Colonel William Ryerson. It's a true test of their critical thinking and decision-making under pressure. A few highlights from the action: - Sometimes, France must embrace its "inner Napoleon"—with strategic insights from none other than a French officer... currently playing the UK! - All eyes are on China as it maneuvers its pieces across the board. - This is not just a game—it’s a battle of focus. (And yes, reading glasses may be a secret weapon for some ??) The stakes are high, the strategies bold, and the learning invaluable. The fate of the (simulated) world hangs in the balance! This is "allies and partners" done right. AY24 MCWAR graduate, Colonel Ryosuke Matsuda of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), is pictured below next to the III Marine Expeditionary Force Commanding General, Lieutenant General Roger Turner. While enjoying the USMC birthday ball in Okinawa, the two were able to share their respective experiences at Marine Corps University. The JGSDF-USMC relationship will only grow in importance, and MCWAR is here to support it.
