“We’re going to have several infrastructure decades because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.” — USCM President Mayor Andrew Ginther. ? Today marks the third anniversary of the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, an all-encompassing and comprehensive investment to transform American cities. Mayors have worked closely with the Biden Administration to implement the law over the past three years and were steadfast advocates for its passage. The impact of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is already being seen in cities, and mayors will help ensure that its benefits are seen for decades to come.

关于我们
The United States Conference of Mayors is the official non-partisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are over 1,400 such cities in the country today. Each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor. The primary roles of The U.S. Conference of Mayors are to: - Promote the development of effective national urban/suburban policy; - Strengthen federal-city relationships; - Ensure that federal policy meets urban needs; - Provide mayors with leadership and management tools; and - Create a forum in which mayors can share ideas and information. The Conference holds its Winter Meeting each January in Washington, D.C. and an Annual Meeting each June in a different U.S. city. Additional meetings and events are held as directed by the Conference leadership.

America’s mayors concluded their national housing tour in Detroit, #Michigan, demanding the next Administration and Congress to pass comprehensive housing legislation. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan welcomed USCM President Columbus (OH) Mayor Andrew Ginther, Toledo (OH) Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, Lansing (MI) Mayor Andy Schor, Cleveland (OH) Mayor Justin Bibb, Lima (OH) Mayor Sharetta Smith and Rochester Hills (MI) Mayor Bryan Barnett. In Detroit, the group visited the Ruth Ellis Clairmount Center, a refuge for LGBTQ+ at-risk youth. Mayor Duggan also highlighted his efforts to reduce tax burdens to spur more affordable housing through the Payment In Lieu Of Taxes, or PILOT program, which he announced in September and the City Council unanimously approved during the event. It offers reduced property taxes to developers who pledge to offer a certain amount of affordable housing units. “If you guarantee for 15 years you will keep your rents at a reduced rate, you automatically get a tax break,” he said. https://lnkd.in/eGYienZp

Mayor Kate Gallego welcomed the U.S. Conference of Mayors to #Phoenix this week. Joining her were USCM President Mayor Andrew J. Ginther of #Columbus #Ohio, Mayor John Giles of #Mesa, and Mayor Corey Woods of #Tempe, kicking off a three-city tour to showcase local solutions to America’s affordable housing crisis. The four mayors visited the Reserve at Thunderbird, a new complex providing #affordablehousing for 108 families who were previously #homeless. The project features three- and four-bedroom homes and was made possible through federal, state, and city funding. The U.S. is facing an unprecedented housing shortage, with an estimated deficit of 4 to 7 million affordable homes, according to Pew Research Center. Many renters now spend more than 30% of their income on housing—the highest burden in at least 20 years. No state has enough affordable housing to meet the needs of its lowest-income residents. At Tuesday’s press conference, mayors echoed the urgent need for federal action. "The reality is that mayors and cities can't do this alone. We need a comprehensive approach across all levels of government," said Mayor Ginther. https://lnkd.in/g8h486n7

Thank you for your leadership, mayor!
The US Conference of Mayors’ (USCM) Homelessness Task Force scored a major policy win yesterday to ensure veterans experiencing homelessness are NOT disqualified from housing assistance based on their disability status. I joined a group of nearly 50 mayors this past April in DC to advocate for solutions to end homelessness including this policy change. Under the leadership of Mayor Karen Bass, the USCM Homelessness Task Force has been working with urgency on a number of policies to address this critical issue that’s affecting pretty much all cities across the country. Thank you to the US Conference of Mayors, Mayor Karen Bass, and the Biden-Harris Administration for your leadership. More information on this policy change: https://lnkd.in/eTzbA8b8

Next month, mayors will travel to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, where they will continue to bring their policy priorities in front of the leading presidential candidates.
