The Marine Education Center a part of the University of Southern Mississippi's Coastal Operations. We are located in the National Seashore in Ocean Springs, MS and look out over the beautiful Davis Bayou. Our location provides us the ultimate teaching tool - OUTDOORS! The MEC offers a wide range of opportunities such as school field trips, summer camps, and is open to the public Monday through Friday! Opportunities for school field trips are Coastal Explorer and Coastal Science Camp. Coastal Explorer is a half day field trip that is catered to help you supplement what you teach in the classroom! Coastal Science Camp is a full day, overnight opportunity to dive deep into the animals, habitats, and ecosystems of the MS Gulf Coast. During the summer months, kids can participate in SeaCamp (1st - 6th grades), SharkFest (7th - 12th grades) , and Angler Camp (7th - 12th grades). NEW for Summer 2022 is Island Adventure Camp! This camp highlights Mississippi's barrier islands! Our wonderful facility is designed to be one with nature. Members of the public can hike our trails, enjoy Davis Bayou, walk across the suspension bridge, and visit the exhibit hall where our fantastic Science on the Sphere is located.
