BIPOC Green Careers Summit during Climate Week NYC: Key Takeaways Our founder and CEO, Fatou Jabbie, participated in the BIPOC Green Careers Summit this Climate Week 2024, thanks to the invitation from Kristy Drutman and her team at Brown Girl Green. Practical experience, internships, and project work are highly valued by employers, including USL Technology. ?Networking and Mentorship: Crucial for career advancement in sustainability. We encourage participation in industry events, professional organizations, and mentorship programs to foster growth and development. ?Evolving Job Market: The job market for green jobs is evolving, with a growing emphasis on skills-based hiring. This trend is creating more opportunities for individuals without traditional degrees to enter and advance in the green industry. ?Inclusion and Equitable Sustainability: Commitment to diverse perspectives and supporting underrepresented communities. We’re enthusiastic for the RETI Center's homegrown mission to build climate solutions by educating and training future leaders, innovators and creators of the sustainable economy. In June, we had the honor of sharing perspectives with students about the future of building decarbonization, and offshore wind in New York State and what opportunities are present. And where sometimes the challenges seem immense, the energy our city’s youth and local community are bringing to climate solutions inspire and motivate us, and we’re thrilled to be a part of their journey. With gratitude to Matt McEnerney, WEDG, Workforce Consultant at the Reti Center, for the invitation to participate.

Recently, founder Fatou Jabbie had the privilege of speaking at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership (NEEP) Summit. The session, "Solution Spotlight: Advancing Energy Codes & Ensuring Disadvantaged Communities Enjoy the Benefits," moderated by the insightful Anilla Cherian, was an inspiring dialogue on the intersection of sustainability and equity. As a New York State Code Enforcement Official and an advocate for clean energy and sustainable buildings, Fatou emphasized the vital role of energy codes in combating energy poverty. These codes are not just technical documents but lifelines that ensure buildings remain efficient, reducing energy consumption and emissions over time. This is tied closely to the mission of USL Technology where we are dedicated to bridging the gap between project owners, disadvantaged communities, and the solutions and incentives that are driving sustainable change. In this light, energy codes provide a pathway to lower bills, improved health, and environmental protection for everyone in NYC. A heartfelt thank you to Anilla Cherian and the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP), including Jennifer Marrapese, JD, MA, Kaitlyn Bulger and Cornelia Wu, RA, LEED AP, CPHC, for this incredible opportunity. Let's continue to champion clean energy codes and equity practices. #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #EnergyCodes #Equity #GreenBuilding #EnergyEfficiency #NEEPSummit
