  • We are the Undergraduate Student Government of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. As student government, we focus on all aspects of student advocacy to better the experiences of the 35,000+ undergraduate students on our campus. We represent the voice of students by working directly with student groups, University administrators, the Board of Regents, and legislators from every level of government in order to achieve our advocacy goals. We believe transparency in advocacy is important. That is why we want to highlight all of the incredible students who work with us to create change. We have several Committees and Task Forces composed of students working together to identify and solve problems that affect our campus. At our biweekly, open-door Forum meetings, students present their advocacy in the form of resolutions which are then voted on by representatives of the student body. In the past year, we have mobilized thousands of students to vote in our Row the Vote campaign, promoted affordable groceries on campus with a local nonprofit known as the Mobile Market, campaigned to implement a $15 minimum wage, advocated for students’ transportation rights with the Universal Transit Pass, and much more. Feel free to contact us with questions or to connect! • Celebrating our incredible Advocacy Day at the Minnesota State Capitol ?? We met with legislators, participated in committee hearings, and championed the issues that matter most to us. Witnessing students actively participate in the legislative process and amplify their voices for change was truly inspiring. A huge shoutout to our director of state affairs, Shae Horning ,and other USG leaders who made this day possible. Finally, a heartfelt thanks to the students who participated and made Advocacy Day a success. Their dedication to advocacy is both inspiring and impactful!

  • ?? Celebrating Row The Vote ?? As election season wraps up, we're reflecting on Row the Vote's amazing work to engage students and ensure their voices are heard! ?? This year, we: ? Visited over 1,000 classes ? Helped 2,000 students register to vote ? Supported 12,000 students in making a plan to vote ??? We’re also thrilled that UMN is ranked #1 out of 307 universities nationwide in the ALL IN To Vote Top Pledging Campus rankings! The journey culminated in Voterpalooza on October 22, where we celebrated early voting with incredible leaders like MN Secretary of State Steve Simon, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Senator Tina Smith, and Representative Mohamud Noor! A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially: the Executive Director of Government and Legislative Affairs Joslyn Blass, our Director of Civic Engagement Riley Hetland ??, and our amazing 100+ Voting Captains and Volunteers who powered Row the Vote! Together, we’ve made a lasting impact—thank you for being part of this journey!

  • ?? This Tuesday, Regent Tadd Johnson joined our USG Forum session for a reverse Q&A to understand our organization better and address student concerns and advocacy efforts. We engaged in meaningful discussions about advancing our advocacy through the Board of Regents, tackling food insecurity on campus, improving campus safety, and much more. We are grateful to Regent Tadd Johnson for listening to and engaging with students to enhance our university experience! Other notable events from last week’s Forum: ?? Congratulations to Simon Carlson for being nominated as a new At-Large Representative! He's excited to contribute to the student body. ?? State Legislative Update: Director of State Affairs, Shae Horning, shared opportunities for student involvement in the upcoming regent elections and state legislative sessions. ?? Networking Event Reminder: Next week, instead of our usual forum, we have a networking event to connect students with administration and community members. Attendance is required. ?? Junior Staff Applications: Open until 10/16. This program is similar to the intern program but with more specific responsibilities. Reach out to Rahma, Clara, Mariam, or James with any questions. ?? Public Safety and Food Insecurity: Discussions led by Regent Johnson and students addressed ongoing issues and potential solutions, emphasizing the importance of student voices in these conversations. Stay informed, get involved, and make your voice heard at future forums! Your participation matters.
