Excited to say I accepted a mechanical engineering internship at SOFWERX through the USF Institute of Applied Engineering, Inc.! So grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to contributing to their mission of delivering cutting edge capabilities to our warfighters.

This week on 60 Minutes, correspondent Scott Pelley reports on?veterans' invisible wounds, the previously unknown brain injuries suffered by those who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. What is remarkable about these injuries is that they were not caused by large blasts from roadside bombs. New research suggests the troops were wounded by repeated, low-level, blast pressure from their own weapons. One of those injured fighters was Ryan Larkin, an elite Navy SEAL who joined right out of high school and served in four combat deployments before severe depression led him to take his own life. ????Protecting our troops is just as important as accomplishing the mission. A continued study, managed by USF IAE, found repeated exposure to low-level blasts is associated with signs of traumatic brain injury. Such exposure is common throughout many military careers, including in training and operational environments. The recently released CBS 60 MINUTES video highlights low blast affects on soldier personalities, the military families affected, and the future of protecting those that serve us. Moving forward, recent modifications to training and weapons aimed at reducing TBI in combat are working to be implemented across all branches — an essential step in safeguarding our forces while maintaining operational effectiveness. ??? Did you know: The original ALiST design consisted of 9 LiDAR sensor heads! ?? ALiST is a sensor designed to aid lunar landing in dark/zero light conditions. It consists of 4 LiDAR sensor heads and an onboard computer. The sensors are configured to collect point-cloud data simultaneously, where then onboard processing stitches the data into a single topographical map. Prototype mounts for the ALiST sensor heads were 3D printed with the FormLabs resin printers in the REL. ?? ??
