    “Maybe it should ask me clarifying questions about what I want to see.” – A recruited PM in our latest Userology interview session using Perplexity’s Deep Research for competitive analysis. We spun our AI agent to conduct a study on Perplexity’s deep research. Just like a human UXR, it drafted open ended interview questions, created a task scenario, recruited the right persona, moderated video interviews with 10 participants and synthesised a report. All of this in just 6 hours. It revealed that product managers found Perplexity’s Deep Research of great value add for competitive research but: - Had to prompt 2-3 times to ensure there is no incorrect interpretation -Citations/Sources discoverability and trust was a challenge Aravind Srinivas does your internal analysis show similar findings and how would you improve the workflow for this use case? Henry Modisett, Sergey Fayfer would love to get your thoughts on automated user testing/research by AI as a part of the product development at Perplexity.

    Skepticism around AI in qualitative research is understandable. However, participant experiences are consistently challenging these preconceptions. Consider this feedback from a user who just completed a 45+ minute session (non-panel participant) on Userology, moderated by AI: “Better experience than I thought… better than a real person… more stress-free.” This isn't an isolated instance. We are observing a pattern of participants appreciating key aspects of AI moderation: - Clarity and Focus:?AI ensures sessions remain structured and task-oriented, maximizing data collection. - Reduced Interviewer Bias:?The absence of human interviewer bias can create a more comfortable and open environment for participants. - More honesty:?Participants often find the AI moderation surprisingly natural and non-judgemental, & hence share thoughts more honestly For product managers and designers aiming for rapid, reliable user insights, AI moderation offers a compelling approach.
